What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

I drink Bordeaux almost never. This was a Garagiste purchase several years ago. By itself, while the flavor was good, it was a little on the thin and tannic side. With a Morgan Ranch strip loin, it improved very much, and was quite enjoyable.

Leads with lemon. Nice drying extract and stones, perfume of honey. Delicious with grilled king salmon. Easy pleasure.

Post-golf wines with non-serious winegeek golf mates. Nothing outlandish, just as my round was not, but the 1995 Luciano Sandrone Cannubi Boschis Barolo, as they say, clearly hit all the greens in regulation. In smooth prime drinking window, tar and rose petals, licorice, seriously enjoyable with its assorted pizza flight mates . It will not sway me to go and buy loads of modern nebbiolo, but what matters was it made for a fun time at the nearby 18 holes!

On a Pucelles kick.

Lemon, drying extract, saline, Chevalier-esque.

A sleeper hit at our house. Jadot! Who knew?

Working through some recent M Bouzereau (im a fan) Young, but not painfully so. Meursault weight. Nice textures. The village wines are still a *relatively good buy.
Good wines.

Hmmmm…wines drinking is part of a good life - regardless where wines are from. How about taking the middle road ?

Since the good old times in Quebec Canada are gone and also burgundy wines are often offer in the Lottery - hence the 2 Ns Club has decided to change our Wine Themes : Will there be life after Bourgogne.

Phil will bring wines from Italy or elsewhere and Peter will bring wines from …

random Friday wines
Paul Pillot Bourgogne 2020 drinking great as always - fine line between acidity and fruit - well done.
Robert Arnoux (Lachaux) CdV 2002 - lovely nose, unfolding with layers and spice, still very young in the mouth - and acidity level at the limit, perfect with food, a bit much without. Long and satisfying.

This was from a couple of days ago. Really delicious, bright acidity, lovely ripe fruited palate and a lengthy finish. Really in the zone and such a pleasure to drink. Yum

A great Friday evening. 2023 Kobayashi Sans Soufre followed by 2014 Figeac. Drank them while watching the M’s win and the Lakers pull of an amazing comeback against the Rockets. Finishing with a little more MLB for good measure.

The Kobayashi, as usual, was incredibly exhuberant immediately after opening. Pure fruit, with a mineral crispness that is so alluring. The Figeac, my 4th bottle in the last couple years, had a just incredible nose, while the wine needed to warm up a bit before unfurling bing cherry, graphite and some maraschino liqueur on the palate. Lovely again, and a wine I just want more of in the cellar.

1992 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet

Very nice, holding up beautifully. Lots of deep and rich Napa fruit still in the mix here plus developed tertiary tobacco and loam.

A touch more bell peppery Cabernet character than the Bancroft Merlot of the same year but on the whole I vote that anyone not wedded to cab at all costs should buy the merlot which runs much much cheaper today and tastes… pretty gd similar. Most of the fruit from this PR Cab is, as I understand it, from Bancroft Ranch anyhow so I am taking this as an indication that with 34 years sideways the terroir is overpowering the grape.

Evolving into an excellent wine, fairly classic, feral Levet profile with big wafts of black olive tapenade, grilled game meats and dry earthy ground cover.

Visiting Boston for a conference, served as a good opportunity to catch up with some local wine friends. Also paid a visit to Ansonia’s warehouse which was a treat.

Got a reservation at Lenox Sophia, the food was superb.

I was in Napa last weekend and had a fun tasting at Realm North, and really enjoyed the expressiveness and unique characteristics of each wine. It led me to open this singleton of Levensohn, a vineyard they no longer work with. This has aromas of tobacco leaf, spice and dark red fruit. Solid core of dark red fruit, some cocoa and an appealing texture. Straightforward and somewhat anonymous, makes me appreciate the rest of the Realm lineup.

We opened a Petit Roy and absolutely loved it.
Now we are doubling down on that and BG…our favorite affordable burg

Catching up on some bottles over the past week or so. From CT review

Really interesting. Nose had this Mediterranean wild and almost garrigue- like scent on top of fresh cherry compote and grilled meat. On the palate, it was cherry and leather, like a blend of burgundy, old Rioja, and Barolo. Tannins were very fine, very strong, but well integrated. Despite the sour and savory components to the taste, it didn’t seem like this was in any imminent danger of falling apart. Sediment was thick and settled on the bottom of the bottle like sludge, or port.
