What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

That Dureuil-Janthial red is under the radar. Yes it is a little ripe in fruit profile but it’s got the acidity to freshen it up all bottle long! I was discussing this with @Peter_Chiu at our last lunch.

Lots of Burgundy talk recently (I blame you @Dennis_Atick how dare you post tasting notes!) around what is good, great, and mind-bending Burgundy.

This is just a lovely bottle of Côte de Beaune.

Domaine de la Vougeraie Côte de Beaune Les Pierres Blanches 2016
1888 bottles. This is lovely (sic). It’s got a Corton nose: red berries, Beaune mustyness, oak spices (savory not sweet) and even a bit of coffee. Mouthfeel is what you want, Pinot delicacy, sneaky and fine Beaune tannins and an earthy finish.

I don’t know how much this costs nowadays but it used to be a song. If it still is, find a cool vintage and jump in.

Yes…I love DJ’s wines, but much prefer his white.

Love to read your TNs.
The colour of the Vougeraie looks wonderful…and I love your wine glass.
I got interesting in buying and drinking Vougeraie’s Musigny due the fact that B. Nason wrote in his book : The Finest Wines of Burgundy - page 161 - that it normally produces around 700 bottles. Only 60 bottles were sold in France to 3-Michelin-stars restaurants and the family usual receives only 6 bottles per year.

Vougeraie’s wines costed only a song in Quebec, Canad and yes - those were good olds days.
Here was the price for Bel Air : Vougeraie – Bel Air 08 (1228-2068 $55.25 ).
Dom. Vougeraie - Musigny 08 (1146-4311 $630 625 bottles )
Vougeraie - Charmes 08 (1099-8492 $125.25 -$106.50)

I will only post on Italian wines from this day forward. I like everything about your post- it reminds of why we drink Burgundy. :victory_hand:

This was showing beautifully, better than previous bottles I’ve had. Unfortunately this is my last. Very floral nose. Oak is there but much more integrated with the fruit than before. Very full mouth feel with stone fruit and light lemon palate.

I followed a bottle over three days and it was absolutely the most open on day 1. By evening three it had shut down pretty hard, much less expressive.

But it was really, really good on that first day.

Fox was gone in an instant, very nice bottle.

Moved on to this lovely

I have no idea how this arrived in the cellar. Must’ve been a Christmas present. I mean it’s not that bad but could’ve been a better re-gift.

2022 Ridge Geyserville. Some potentially gorgeous fruit down there but for now rather obscured by oak.

2018 Fingers Crossed Syrah. Still full of fruit, medium acid and silky tannins. Hardly showing much sign of aging. I like these higher ABV wines without food pairings and poured a glass after dinner.

2004 Keever Vineyards Yountville Cab.

sous-chatelet minus lalou. has more in common with trimbach f emile than most other aligote. humming along nicely, not yet showing any age. tensile without even taking the warm vintage in consideration. distinctive to say the least!

Did a vertical of Bucklin ancient field blend 2013, 2014 and 2015. I saved a little of each and had the next day also.

The 2013 is good but on its last legs. Thin and less fruit. A whisper the next day

The 2014 tasting the most zin like. Slight pepper and forest floor with dark fruits still there. The next day it opened up and showed fruit but with a backbone of mushrooms and other deeper notes

The 2015 was the brightest. Fresh fruit. Almost sweet but smooth. Refreshingly young compared to the others. Next day was great also. Just lighter without the forest floor yet.

Will makes some great stuff

It is very difficult to top a bottle of Corison when having a Napa Cabernet.

I cannot imagine that the 2013 is “on its last legs.”
