This was pretty good last night. I’m on the Michel Bouzereau train lately. Doesn’t have the multicolor depth of the 1ers and rather lean right now.

I just bought a couple bottles of the 2010 Chandon de Briailles Corton Clos du Roi and was sort of nervous about opening one just 15 years out but this guy here has negated everything we thought about stubborn and recalcitrant Corton.

Well 2018 is a pretty ripe vintage. But also worth noting that 2010 was in an ‘older’ winemaking regime at Chandon de Briailles. They started dialing down the whole cluster with 2011, and in subsequent years began adjusting their pressing regime, getting gentler, reducing pumping, reducing sulfur… The wines are gentler and more forward than the 2000s and earlier.

So your 2010 is another era. But, you can try one and let us know!

I recently bought just one bottle of their 2009 Corton Bressandes, but will wait.

I keep on buying Corton with both hands because every bottle I’ve had has been outstanding. And with the prices so low I keep wondering what is the catch? Have I discovered a secret that so many folks here don’t know?
Had a long interaction a while back with @dcornutt on this topic, he seems to be a Corton man at heart too along with the obvious and faithful @Peter_Chiu

Thanks Rahsaan. I bought this bottle for a good price a while back and have been curious. Good to know about the fluctuating style, I’ve read nice things recently and wanted to get an initial sense for myself. I’d say my experience with this particular bottle was similar to @Otto_Forsberg 's description in this post.

Not much 2018 or Corton in my cellar, so I can’t comment on those bits. I will be looking to add some CdB in the future.

2017 Aston Estate Pinot

Had yesterday with Easter lunch and then finished tonight. Rich, ripe Sonoma Coast Pinot, lovely nose, rich complex mouthfeel. Red fruits, plums, tea. Excellent if you like the style.

Yes, I’m definitely rooting for them to do well, so it’s nice when they produce good wines. But I must admit that it’s an adjustment, having first begun to enjoy their wines in the early 00s, in a style they no longer make. Can’t go back in time, but I did prefer the older style, so many other places to buy the Fresh Fruit Juice Wine these days.

It’s also tricky now because they are experimenting a lot and there is more variation across vintages/cuvees. But all part of what makes wine fascinating.

One of my favorite wineries for many reasons. Walking into the winery and seeing the yellow umbrellas makes me happy. Then there is a redwood grove you can visit. And their own garden you can walk through. They have a chef on staff. If you get a walking tour there is an eagle nest at the edge of their property. Huge nest. It is also a family owned winery. Besides that, the wines are good. Standard Pinot and Chardonnay house. All the chardonnays are pretty well balanced but different amount of oak. You can find something you like and to pair with food. Our favorite is La Sereinite. You can age it. This is a seven year old bottle. Good selenite to match with the mussels. Nice dinner

Enjoyed French eats, sensibly and expertly prepared local fusion and French bistro classics, with cool btg lists at @nendanang and @guwinebistro, both pleasant wine-centric restaurant finds, in Da Nang, a town that somewhat evokes the Vietnamese Riviera vibe.

Had fun ordering off their respective lists and the 2020 Domaine De La Bergerie ‘Les Pierrees Girard’ Anjou Blanc (Nen), the 2022 Domaine Remi Jobard Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes (Gu Bistro) and the 2023 Foillard Morgon were standouts!

Third bottle of this 2020 Crescendo. I shared a glass with a neighbour this afternoon when it was a straight forward cabernet franc style. This evening it has deepened and broadened into a more funky beast.

I’ve been craving young Syrah lately, 2018 Gonon that’s two nights, in a 2023 Gonon Iles Feray tonight. Lovely stuff.
