What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

How was the haie de brune?

Last weekend we drank a huge number of Gevrey GCs, along with some other fun stuff (Krug, Cristal, Guilbert Gillet, etc.). I don’t have the time now to write notes for everything, but the WOTNs for me were the 06 Rousseau Beze and 10 Tremblay Chapelle. The 13 Rousseau Charmes was just a hair behind or maybe not behind at all. Other standouts were the 93 Faiveley Latricieres, the 86 Rousseau Ruchottes, and the 00 Rousseau Beze. The 14 Dujac Charmes picked up steam as the night went on. 05s showed as 05s too often do. 08 Cristal was awesome as always. This was my first experience with Guilbert Gillet, and the 21 Savigny 1er was juicy and lovely and very fragrant–though the secondary market prices are nutty.

A bit surprised that the 06 Beze showed best, but not super surprised that the 13 Charmes was great. 06 CSJ earlier this year was pretty tight.

It’s a shame to see this wine leave my cellar, but on the other hand, as a note below indicates, it is certainly no crime to drink now. Popped and poured, the aromatics on this are absolutely soaring. Exotic red to blue fruits with hints of umami in the background and a very deft touch of sweet vanilla seasoning. The punchy, primary fruit completely envelops your tongue. It really pops and reminds me quite a lot of of the more recent Bouley wines in style. I doubt I will be able to replace this very special bottle but it is very much in balance and should make wonderful old bones. Totally worth the hype, if not the secondary market price. I can still taste this the following day. (97 points)

These glamping escapades are very impressive. I took kids camping in Arkansas ozarks and drank some beer, had two flasks of whisky/ey. Got rained on, got some ticks. Here you are drinking mags of champagne and a bunch of good wines. I gotta figure this out.

2014 is great right now as is 2016 even if the latter should improve quite a bit

What a lineup!!!

Beasts! How was the Martinieres? And vintages?

Vincognito @vincognitohoian and its cool, mysterious and sexy vibe is the restaurant to find when longing for true Italian foods as one hits the heat, jungles and beaches of Central Vietnam .
Located in the quaint and pretty, but somewhat crazy, neo-Colonial city of Hoi An.

2022 Cave de Lugny Mâcon-Lugny From a wine cooperative in Burgundy, this was all mineral, green apple, some citrus candy and a wonderful pairing with the restaurant’s fresh Fritto Misto and with some memorable flown-in Japanese Miyagi Oysters.

2022 Delas CĂ´tes-du-RhĂ´ne Saint-Esprit, medium-bodied Mediterranean ripeness and enough Southern Rhone complexity to make it work very well with the excellent Polpette in marinara.

The 2024 Deingard Green Label Riesling from Mosel was the refreshing and calming factor upon walking in from the oppressive outdoor heat.

Wow - quite the line-up! I’d be interested to know how all of them tasted (and what some of them are!) but of those I succeeded in identifying, Les Jardins de la Martinières, Les Jardins Esméraldins and Là bas. I’ve actually got one of the latter, the two others being probably out of my league budget-wise, but I’ve always been very curious about them. It must have been an incredibly interesting evening!

2023 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Monts Damnes
Presenting more fruit than expected, but still balanced by a mineral, acid spine. Pleasant tension between the two throughout. More stone fruit than citrus. Oddly reminded me of Albarino. This is a very good wine. A glass with spinach ricotta pasta with basil pesto sauce played well.

2025 Fidelio (Sauvignon Blanc) from Realm Cellars, drank it this afternoon while watching the Masters, very delicious and refreshing. Strong aromatics of tropical fruit, I want to say pineapple and papaya, crisp and lingering finish. Looking forward to drinking more of this as it warms up here in CT

Had to do a double-take on the vintage, as I was about post “Wow! My bottles of Delas Côtes-du-Rhône Saint-Esprit disappear within five years of the vintage. I’ll need to try giving them some additional cellartime!” It’s one of a small handful of Southern Rhone under-$20 bargains available to me in my local retail market. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :wine_glass:
