The 2016 Dolinsek Ranch Heritage is just singing tonight. Still structured, lively, and youthful up front but on the back end a seasoned virtuoso dishing out fantastic breadth and depth. A wild extravaganza on the palate and nose with herbality, blueberries, blackberry, strawberries, cinnamon and cloves, pomegranate, rhubarb, dust and minerals, hints of earth, and more! Still plenty of tannic backbone carrying this. And if that wasn’t enough a remarkable silky full bodied texture and very long finish. This is as close to perfect as can be for the zin-dominant field blend genre and I’ll give it a very rare 5 out of 5 because it’s as good as it gets. The tragedy is it’s my last bottle.
Bedrock makes such world class wines and so affordable for such quality. Bravo.
These Hudsons seem to age glacially but bring so much classic Syrah character that I don’t mind when I open one and I can’t tell whether it’s 3 or 13 years old.
2016 The Bedrock Heritage was in a great place last night - ready to go on PnP. Great pairing with mixed BBQ plate (brisket, pork ribs, smoked hot links). This one feels like it could just cruise in the zone for years.
2022 Old Vine, drinking very nicely. Double decanted and brought to a potluck where it was enjoyed by all. Well balanced, with no heat. Black/blue fruit with nice acidity. These really do need a few years to come around.
Opened both morning of, very different (obviously) and both drank incredibly well with the Bedrock showing great mountain fruit and held it’s own in the match up.
