What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?

Nice work Mark - I’m loving this wine right now! Lucky to have a couple left but I’m not sure if they’ll make it longer than a year as i can’t keep my hands off of em

Thanks Rich. I know you’re another early Bedrock fan and am a bit jealous to hear that you have more of these. Think that this might have been my last bottle of this.

2022 Bedrock Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc. I have always loved the bedrock whites, and, as usual, this is a very fine job. I prefer the kaleidoscopic tropical fruit salad of the Judge Vineyard SB—this leans more of what I think of as lemon-lime.
Nevertheless, a serious wine and a very good match with swordfish.

Love the Judge as well, but Bedrock SB is my favorite. The kiss of Stockinger just makes it sing. I’d like to try it with some age, but they get drank too fast.

2015 Lorenzo’s Heritage tonight with whitetail deer loin, just crazy good. Starting to get some secondary characteristics that were perfect with the game. Very savory with black fruits present, tannins starting to gain drying traction after hour 5. Zero bricking, this has a long ways to go.

I’m a broken record, but field blends are the best pairing with game.

2019 Bedrock Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County) is starting to taste more like a Sonoma Cabernet and less like “generic Bedrock wine.”

2016 Bedrock/Bedrock a bit of a disappointment. This was a WineBid grab so who knows prior storage (though I think it was ostensibly “professional” or at least temp/humidity controlled). Just kind of flat and a little stodgy/porty. Not much acidity/lift/drive. May just be a lousy in between stage with receded primary fruit but relatively little tertiary interest (though there is some earth and licorice). Just generally a bit of a bummer after seeing some good recent notes!

This was a fun one! Been on a syrah kick lately so figured it was as good a time as any time check in on a 2007 Bedrock Syrah. And since I couldn’t decide which one to open……I figured ‘why not try em both’ – 2007 Old Lakeview Vineyard Syrah and 2007 Glenlyon Vineyard Syrah. Not many of these unicorns left so it was pretty cool to drink them side/side. While they were both really good (especially considering this was Morgan’s ‘1st’ vintage) The 2007 Old Lakeview Syrah was the clear standout. It was brighter, and had a stunning mix of blue fruits, spice, and a hint of game and a little bit of olive. But the pure fruit was the standout here with the other notes playing the supporting role. The Glenlyon was much more savory with a heavy emphasis on black pepper and herbs, with the fruit being very much in the background. Both full of acidity, medium+ bodied, and very well made……but the Old Lakeview is much more in my wheelhouse. Great @Morgan_Twain-Peterson @Chris_Cottrell Cheers!

‘13 Nervo tonight was pretty good here. Not spectacular but fine, and in the classic Bedrock mode. Took a bit of time to open up. Half a bottle left for tomorrow.

Nice!! I would be interested in trying one at this stage. It was…not good back in 2018, ha!

Had the ‘23 Evangelho Heritage last night. Still the leader in the clubhouse for best of the ‘23’s so far.

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing with us. The Bedrock wines age glacially and I wish that I had more from the first several vintages. Keep 'em coming :star_struck:

Plum and blood orange. This is essence of Evangelho.

2013 Nervo night 2. Strange turn from a nice acidic edge of freshness to a touch porty. I still wouldn’t pour it down the drain, but I preferred last night’s version.

Interesting! I for sure wouldn’t mind trying a glass of this at some point. Always a appreciate it when a wine turns out better than i expected

Anyone try the inaugural release of the 2023 Banfield Zin? Martinelli Jackass vineyard a la Bedrock. Interested in trying it…

Wow, two Bedrocks that I have not heard of before. I am a big fan of Bedrock Syrah - do you think there has been any style change since those early vintages? Glad to hear they were drinking well.

That’s a great question, but unfortunately im not the best person to ask as im actually not the biggest syrah fan and actually do not typically purchase them (probably stopped around the 2014 vintage).

That said, the zins/field blends, while still made in a similar style, have probably become a bit more refined compared to the 1st vintages. They have always been incredibly balanced and of course very well made wines…but the focus on structure and refinement while still retaining the beautiful old vine fruit seems to be even more of a priority currently

2018 Evangelho. Having with a rib ragu over pasta. Nice match.

The rumors of this wine’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. It’s everything you would want out of a Bordeaux Blanc blend with some age. Lovey fruits, a bit waxy in texture, slight honey’ing. Just awesome, tons of life left.
