Welcome BERSERKERS!
So many thanks to Todd + the WineBerserkers Crew for bringing this salty lady winegrower back for BD16!!!
Perkins-Harter wines are old-school, minimal-intervention, classic stylings primarily from Bracken Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills. With 15.5 hillside acres planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Aligoté and Pinot Meunier, my vision as a winegrower evolves with every vintage. As a micro-winery operation, I proudly produce only ~800 cases of wine per year and handle all of the winemaking as a one-woman operation. I inject a heavy amount of love into Bracken Vineyard with integrity, sustainability and mindfulness - utilizing both organic and biodynamic practices. If you would like to learn more about my work and vision at Bracken - you can listen to the interview I recently did with Adam Huss of the Organic Wine Podcast, HERE.
I am grateful to be championed by my DTC clients, distributors (Delicious Wines in Portland, Vom Boden in NY/NJ, Ungrafted in CT), restaurants, and my grape clients (Twill, Violin, Walter Scott, Junichi Fujita, David Paige and Grochau Cellars). Head on over to check out offers with Walter Scott with @Erica_Landon and then Violin @Will_Hamilton’s Polk County Stomp to get read-in on our collective Eola Bench fanaticism, because…
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE TERROIR!!!

OFFER 4: VIVA LA EOLA BENCH!!! (6-PACK)
Wines from two neighboring vineyards on a single volcanic landslide that faces west: it can easily be argued that this “Eola Bench” is a magical place for Pinot. Sojeau sits at 550-650 ft - and Bracken is just above it from 650-750 ft. Between these two properties is a grove of old Oregon Oaks where we all meet, BBQ, raise a glass, and watch the sunset! Two extra bottles of Bracken Pinot fill out the mix since these grapes were grown by the maker. (12.4-13.3% abv.)
**6-Pack (Retail $355)
- 1 x 2023 Bracken Pinot Noir
- 1 x 2023 Bracken Chardonnay
- 1 x 2022 Bracken Pinot Noir

- 1 x 2021 Sojeau Pinot Noir

OFFER 5: NUCLEAR BUNKER ZIN (6-PACK)
My two favorite vintages of the Zinfandel I made in Dry Creek Valley before I moved to Oregon. Truly nuclear bunker wines in a nuclear bunker format: my professional opinion as a former nuclear lawyer and winegrower. A blend of OVZ planted in 1889 from R. Teldeschi (80%), Teldeschi Petite Sirah (15%), and Syrah from Pasterick (5%). A perfect wine for BBQ, Pizzas, and the roasts of Winter.
6-Pack (Retail $345)
- 3 x 2015 Teldeschi Old Vine Zinfandel
- 3 x 2014 Teldeschi Old Vine Zinfandel

ON WINE:
I make wine because I love the creative process, not because I need to garner ratings for a brand or my ego. I moved from winemaking to winegrowing in 2018 in order to have greater control over the pick date and thus the starting brix, TA, and pH of my wines. Being small, controlling everything is the dream and allows me to make my wines in the vineyard as much as possible. My wines are a means to explore my site and show its terroir, not a particular winemaking technique. I farm with organic and biodynamic methods so that healthy native yeast populations flourish in both vineyard and winery - and supporting natural fermentations. For the full wine philosophy rant…just click HERE.
ON FARMING:
Bracken is perched on the western benchlands of the Eola Hills, with elevations of 630-750 feet and views that stretch up and down the Willamette Valley. Here, the soils are predominantly of volcanic origin, but with varying depths, and wind dominating the site most days. You can read more about Bracken and other partner vineyard sites of the past HERE.
ENDORSEMENTS:
“Farmed biodynamically and organically, Bracken tops out at 750 feet on the volcanic soils of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. It’s as good as terroir gets for the kind of Willamette Valley Chardonnay and Pinot that stop even Old World diehards in their tracks.” - Flatiron Wine & Spirits
“Her wines…gained immediate recognition as a cult favorite when restaurants such as Momofuku Ko poured them by the glass and gobbled up every bottle they could get their hands on. She produces only 700-800 cases of wine each year from her own estate, which she mindfully farms utilizing both organic and biodynamic methodologies. Quite frankly, I think Shelby Perkins is the most exciting winemaker in Oregon.” - Ben Niedelman, Tribeca Wine Merchants.
“They are polished but they don’t run away from the Willamette’s cooler-climate, showcasing high-toned acidity and a vivid precision that make these so exciting to drink. For me, a lover of not just Burgundy but also wines from Oregon and the Mosel, these really hit the spot when it comes to satisfying my penchant for elegant tension and nuanced layers.” - Jonathan Kemp, Vanderbilt Wine Merchants.
"Quite possibly the most intelligent winemaker I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with…” - Collin Wagner, Vom Boden Imports
“Every so often I taste a wine that truly tells a story like this Chardonnay from Perkins Harter.” - Michelle DeWyngaert, Chambers Street Wines
“Shelby Perkins is one of the best and most conscientious winemakers on the planet and her wines will remind me, for weeks to come, and despite all else, that life can be, should be and is good.” - Steve Ventura, Dirty Bacchus Wine Shop
“The results are lifted, uncommonly precise and alive. They feel cooler and more ethereal than nearly any other wines I’ve had from Oregon. But this is just the beginning…I can’t wait for more – hopefully with a big pot of melted cheese somewhere on hand.” - Stephen Bitterolf, Vom Boden Imports
