Who's making the killer Bordeaux glass now?

It’s important to put your wine in a cheerful mood.

Broke my last obsession glass last night, will have to reup in Jan

Wonder if that would help the angry 2005 Burgundies I keep hearing about.

My favorite would be the Josephine universal. I have the number 3 but it’s a little too big for me (personal preference , I also gave away my old Zalto.burg glass)

That said with the recent price increase when I needed to replace glasses I went with Grassl. Great glasses and when on sale much better price.

BTW IMO the Grassl Versatile is a perfect champagne glass.

My current setup:

Burgundy: Grassl Cru
Bordeaux: Grassl 1855
Champagne: Grassl Versatile
Sauternes: Grassl Versatile

My favorite stems and what we use 85% of the time are the machine-made Gabriel Glas stems. When we want to feel fancy, we go with the hand-blown versions.

Strawberries more effective on biodynamic fruit days

My preferred glass too.

I have the Zalto Universal, Zalto Bordeaux, Gabriel Glas, and the Grassl 1885.

The Zalto Universal is my go-to for Bordeaux. It sits so comfortably in the hand, it feels steady when you swirl it, and it matches the aromatics of the other glasses.

Completely agree

I own a set of Zalto universals (as well as bdx/burgs/light whites) but feel like I never use them or ggs (I have way too much glassware, i have glasvins too). I just don’t think they have the same hand feel or aromatics of the 1855 for bdx, and certainly not for burgundy. Their best use case might be champagne, but the grassl versatile is better sized for that imo.

Michael,

I respectfully disagree. For me, the hand feel of the Universal is unrivaled. I agree re: Burgundy. I don’t use the Universal for this, rather the Conterno Sensory. To each his own!

Their best use case is Riesling, but you wouldn’t care about that!

They just feel too small for me for reds; I have this issue with every universal glass, though. I have a set of sensory glasses, but as I said above they just feel too heavy. I like the shape, though.

I like the universals for whites except chard. I use them a lot but I already had some and didn’t feel the need to replace something that works for me. I definitely prefer the Bordeaux for those types of wines though.

I still like drinking sparkling wines out of flute or Champagne glass though. I know that’s like a faux pas now but I just like it.

I still have a bunch of old Riedel Vinum stems. Got those when I got started and I still use the Syrah glass on occasion, but I’ve mostly phased all those out.

I guess that makes sense; I just don’t drink non-chard whites pretty much ever, maybe the occasional Albariño, canary island or Sicilian white; I would usually just use the versatile for those too.

Ugh flutes are terrible; you have to fill them way too high for any amount of champagne. I did have fun drinking Krug from a coupe in Charleston to @Nick_Christie’s disdain though.

Yeah, I know I’m in the minority on the flutes. I’m not trying to win any arguments here. I just sort of accepted that I’m different and move on haha

Wine glasses and mattresses, technology has come a long way in the 21st Century. Still waiting for jetpacks though.
