Who's making the killer Bordeaux glass now?

Broke my Reidel Bordeaux glass in the hot tub. It’s been 3 months now without a nice glass. I saw that same glass on Amazon for $149 and reviewers calling some fake. I’d like to try something different this time, anybody got any high end glasses they recommend? For Bordeaux…

My daughter found hopefully the final chard of glass in the hot tub the other night. We have been vacuuming, refilling and still keep finding chards. Yes I have been forbidden from glass in the hot tub.

I’d wait a month-ish until BerserkerDay, and hit one of our glass sellers then. Many favorites among them, and fantastic deals

Setting cost aside, my favorite glass for Bordeaux is the zalto Bordeaux glass. The grassl 1855 and glasvin expression are also nice for Bordeaux and there will likely be deals for berserker day for both from CJF Selections (Grassl) and the Glasvin site.

I prefer the Grassl 1855 over the others; I think the slightly shorter stem is nice.

Alfert approves this post. But, it should also be in the breakage thread as well for posterity! A smarter man than me might also recommend an inflatable hot tub, right @ToddFrench ?

Kidding aside, wait until berserker day and then check out the options. I highly recommend the Kane Glass by Glasvin. @davidkong I will be grabbing more, since I break everything and constantly need to replace them.

They’ll be back in stock any day

I can’t imagine any glass being much better than the Conterno Sensory glass, for just about any wine.

I have a few of these but rarely use them; much prefer the grassl cru for burgs and 1855 for bdx. Sensory is very heavy too.

I go back and forth on my Zalto Bordeaux and Grassl 1855s, both good glasses. I personally think the Zaltos work better with whites than the larger-bowl 1855s. The Sensory glass is more polarizing I think, some experienced folks here love it above all others, for me too bulky.

Just weighed all here - 125g for the Sensory, 116 for the Zalto, 110 for the 1855. My Zaltos vary in weight more than my 1855s.

I thought you of all people would have no problems lifting a wine glass!

Wow, the Sensory is the lightest, most gossamer, thinnest walled wineglass I’ve ever touched. Clocking in at just 126 grams, I’ve broken two of them in normal handling and washing. It is in fact this lack of heft that to me is possibly the only downside of the glass.

The Grassl Cru is an even more svelte 110 grams, but I gotta think that a 16 gram difference is nearly undetectable.

Well there’s another data point, I haven’t broken a Zalto with normal handling in like 10+ years. (Not good to load stems into the dishwasher with the top shelf in the high position.) Haven’t broken an 1855 yet, those are much newer. And much less expensive on BerserkerDay .

p.s. The Sensory balance is different because they are much shorter than the other two. That plus being much wider gives them a very different feel in the hand.

I wash them by hand but now do it the way porcupines make love.

I just recently bought the Josephine 3 and really am enjoying it. I also recently tried a set of the Fontaine for everyday use and also really like them.

The Josephine 3 is a large glass, it seems to be too big for many folks.

I also like the Josephine but they break so easily! I did get the Fontaines for everyday use and they are good. But for special red bottles I usually pull a Grassl or a Glasvin.

Btw keep in mind those weights are for the second gen Grassl cru. The first gen was much lighter. It was pretty fragile though. Btw I wash all glasses in the dishwasher.

I’m adding a point in the corner of Zalto Bordeaux. They are far from cheap but worth every penny. I’d say it’s my favorite glass overall.

I prefer the Spieglau Definition Bdx over the Zalto. Even though they’re practically identical, the Spieglau is a more robust glass. I’ve broken all my Zaltos and hardly ever one of the Spieglau glasses, apart from when dropping them.
