What natural wine did you open today?

Quiet New Years eve w. my partner at the local french inspired bistrot. Sadly, I am still being referred to as ‘the regular who loves macerated wine’, despite it actually being her who loves it and can’t dine without. I mean, it complements everything from fish to red meats, but I’m a little bored with it…
There was some Bini Serraghia from '21 & '16 but in a country that doesn’t take back mousy bottles it’s a risky bet, and the Schueller Edelzwicker 2020 is a VA mess. So the Ligas it was.

Domaine Ligas - Lambda Assyrtiko 2022
Herby, peachy and salty. Those are the three words to describe it. The nose presents itself with ripe stone fruits and a touch of herbs like sage and a bit of thyme. The acidity is on the rather fresh and punchy side without it venturing into VA land, and the tannins aren’t overpowering. It’s not the longest finish in the world, but a very typical one that has a slight saline touch. Generally a happy glass.

Oxymore Songe Eveille 2024
It has all what you hope for in a clean natural Jura Savagnin + Chardonnay blend.

Nicolas Carmarans Maximus 2021 100% Fer Servadou (?)
But a Minimus would better describe the drinking pleasure. Scratchy tannins, vinegar notes, a trace of fizz. Hard core fans will see it differently.

A New Year resolution: less natty wines, back to the classics.

My friend brought this for cooking purposes on NYE.
It is however surprisingly good. A good VJ from a price perspective.

My local shop has had a few bottles of the 18 Lentum on the shelf for ages now. Think it’s worth giving one a shot? I’ve always considered it, but I know they can be variable

the 18 lentum was released last year (6 year fermentation!) and is a really unique expression of riesling. We tasted it at the winery and brought a bottle home, its definitely worth taking a flyer on.

A disappointing bottle of 2002 Les Vignes de mon Père that was leaning towards Vin Jaune.
I think this was a storage issue as the wine should have been stellar.

And two winners: a 2023 Duroché Gevrey SS that transformed beautifully after forty five minutes in a carafe and a 2020 Ganevat en Billat.

Some spritz that blew off and then some beautiful bright strawberry fruit. Yum ++++. Immensely chuggable.

what is the deal with the duroche sans soufre? how long has it been produced, where to acquire, etc…

First time I ever saw a bottle, we drank at La Table du Square in Beaune - ~130€ on the list.

Was stinky at first and then blossomed.
I am on the hunt, it was very good.

i am always curious when a more classic leaning producer attempts a sans soufre cuvée. have you tried the millot vaucrain?

I had a similar experience with a recent 02.

Recent bottles of 1998 were good, not great, but still plenty of life.
The 2005 is still fresh as ever.

Took a few days off drinking Guffens and Paul Pillot, but back at it now:

A good + bottle of Varrons, the wine was served a few degrees too warm and bringing the bottle down a few degrees in temperature really helped. Not super exciting.

The string of good reds continued, maybe not quite a good as the Domaine Saint Pierre, but still very good.

A bottle that I brought over from my cellar. Showing some age, but still decent acidity and freshness. It looks like the élevage here was thirty nine months, and the wine was not as “out there” as the recent iterations.

Here we go . . . fruit, tension, balance . . . just superb.

Ah, can’t wait for that. Will be in Paris next month so hopefully there’s still some left. I think allocations dropped in late December.
