Still… its 50€ at idealwine as an example.
wild! i would take a bottle of julien mareschal instead with quite a good track record and diam closure not to mention far lower cost. not so sexy of a label to post on the gram i guess ![]()
Yeah I’m not paying above 30 for a Jura red
*well for Overnoy I do…
I also don’t get the hype… Granted, I only tried the first vintage or two and the wines are high quality, they just don’t speak “Jura” to me.
I think people should really reconsider Ganevat reds. They are much better than most people think.
Ouch… I heard good things, just not willing to pay the $$$ to find out.
When you say another miss do you mean another Kuban wine? I have had a few and was quite impressed although it is not a style I want to drink everyday. I have had less success with the Maison Glandien wines.
If you haven’t tried Brun’s Beaujolais Blanc I highly recommend that as well. Is there a better Chardonnay at that price point ? Not that I’ve found
True, that’s perhaps the only other producer crossing the 50-60€ line I’d buy. And they’re somewhat consistent too. Only reason I buy red Labet instead of Ganevat is that I find the energy to be something else.
not a big pet nat fan but this was wonderful. super clean fruit, not very yeasty. after an hour of air there was a distinct chablisean note on the nose. bubbles were perhaps a bit aggressive to start but settled in nicely with time in the glass. probably the first american wine i have tried that was demeter certified.
I think I have years ago. Thanks for the reminder. I also remember years back utilizing the FRV100 Sparkling Rose for a dinner party pairings and it was always a big hit.
I really like Labets reds as well, but I would only buy them in a resturant setting where I expect to drink them within an hour or so.
I do not have any trust in reds from Jura. Even the last Overnoy I’ve tasted ended up mousey.
Based on only having had a couple of red Jura wines (a weak foundation for an opinion), of which one being a Labet Varrons - German PN is a better option at significantly more modest price point. The bottle I had was very correct, however it had me thinking about E&M’s PN, just that it was not as good (to me), slightly less energy and focus/precision.
I wish I had a lot more white Labet (and others) in my life though.
I totally get it. That hot '18 vintage was sent straight from hell. My recent '23s of Labet was all clean though even after hours, so I’ll stay optimistic for now.
@Mikael_OB I thought that having a friend who works at the Dutch Labet importer would equal a few bottles here and there? ![]()
We all do ![]()
I think the €50 point for reds has been passed by quite a few producers on the primary market now.
Some of the better are still south of that, IMO;
Marnes Blanches, Aviet, Gahier & Tournelle. And Cavarodes, if you choose wisely…
Yes. I said quite a few. Certainly not all. And not all cuvées from a producer. But I’m seeing more wines exceed €25 pro pricing.
I wonder if more will increase with the 24s.
I had a marnes blanches poulsard open for a few days earlier this year and it had no issues (and was comparable to a bruyere houillon poulsard at a restaurant). Labet varrons pinot was super reductive and light in body, much closer to a rose, but that may have been the vintage (19) as I know theyve changed the pn production into more cuvees now.
