Indeed. Brun clearly was never part of the stereotypical ‘natural wine’ crowd, but also clearly captures much of that joy. Fun stuff.
We are not afraid of VA!!!
Absolutely delicious bottle of Balagny - felt more like Poulsard than Gamay.
Mnnyeah, I wouldn’t let the '20 sleep for more than two years.
@patrick_c_albright That should be the title of this thread… Chauvet OK? I’ve quite enjoyed what I’ve had from him recently.
Thanks Mads!
I’ll move them forward in the rotation order.
No issues with the Chauvet, just seemed a little “straight” with the other wines on the table.
do you have a photo of the color for the balagny? curious as a lot of her early vintages were such low alcohol yet the wines tended to appear quite saturated and even opaque.
No, sorry.
Would like to think the color was fairly translucent, but I do not remember for sure.
The palate was really light and textural, a pretty memorable wine.
First night in the Mosel! Ordered a 19 Melsheimer Lentum, my first time with this wine. This a fully natural, no SO2 or very little, extended barrel aging wine. 2019 is the current release. A few bottles of the 18 were truly profound and a couple were off. This smelled funky on opening but quickly blew off. What emerged was a fascinating interpretation of riesling that was unique but still undeniably from the Mosel.
froussard is his chardonnay right? Was that the 22 or 23? IIRC the 22 is a straightforward approach and the 23 has a significant amount of skin contact on it .
Yes, Chardonnay, it was the 22.
I’ve always enjoyed Evan’s wines, especially the more serious ones and my notes are much more in line with yours than Toms.
They really underperform for the price, IMO.
Phenomenal wines from last night. Slight edge to the 11 Overnoy over the 14 Marnes Bleues. The 17 Chardonnay needs a bit more time, but potential is great!
Was this bottle of '14 Marnes Bleues as good as the bottle earlier this year? Or would you say the '11 Overnoy performed better than both?
This bottle was just as good and the Overnoy edged it just very slightly. I’ve had the Overnoy twice before and this wine has been consistently mind blowing!
Wow! Those bottles sound awesome. Glad to see you guys are having a good time over there and sharing some
bottles together.
the ironic thing is my first experience with lewandowski wines was in paris at cave vivant at least 10 years ago. the somm was super excited by them and poured me a taste of the cortese. the current line up is great and i think the riesling is the sleeper hit of the bunch.
they are lurching toward the $200 mark stateside; a big no thank you for a nearly oxidized looking poulsard ![]()
Wow thats crazy.
it appears the cuvée patrick drank was at the lower end:
compared with some of the other parcels:
