I haven’t. Only the Syrah and Cinsault. Loooove the Cinsault.
Thanks for the notes, Adam. That’s pretty much on point! I like my Riesling dry
Tercero Trilogia & Curiosity 1 (in the glass), and Marisa Cuomo Costa d’Amalfi Rosso 2023. All great wines, both reds on the lighter side, looking forward to springtime
Shared delicious modern Asian dishes @kong.mnl , a cool Makati restaurant whose list contain an impressive breadth of the geekiest stuff that I’ve come upon in this side of the archipelago, and with some at friendly pricing. Wines below (with per bottle prices) were for 4 drinkers, as 2 others opted for non wine beverages.
2016 Jean-Luc Jamet Cote Rôtie ‘Terrasses’ ($51)
- Just a touch of gloss, peppery notes, fresh meat and clean fruit. A quality Northern Rhone syrah with exciting aging potential.
2019 Domaine de la Pepiere Chateau-Thébaud Muscadet ($39)
- Scratched my itch for a muscadet with the mineral, sea shellish notes, and lemony fruit from the Loire Valley. Satisfying and lengthy.
2022 Villa Chambre d’Amour Gros Manseng et Sauvignon Blanc ($25)
- Did not know what to expect when ordered, but the off-dry touch, cool-weather fruit and refreshing texture paired very well with some of our Asian-inspired dishes.
Back to my aged wine shenanigans. This time a 2010 Cameron Giuliano, 2010 which I was lucky enough to discover in a recess. So much going on in this 16 year old cool vintage gem. Slight effervescence, white flowers, apple, white apricot, plenty of acidity, toast, hay. Absolutely in its vigor and with great stories to tell. Well done, Cameron!
How was the wine?
How is this? Just landed a 6er recently.
Not exactly sure why I bought a six pack of this. Not a chateau I follow at all.
The wine is decent to good. Nice blackcurrant and cedar nose, very Pualliac. Palate is red fruited and a bit on the cooler side. Showing the 2008 vintage, lacking a bit of mid palate richness. Finish is clean with mostly soften tannins and good acidity. It is nice to drink and wll keep but not improve I suspect.
2023 Vangone Block D Cab Sauv & 2023 Andremily White Cuvee. Had the Andremily with a salmon dinner, love the wines that Andremily produces. Just got the Vangone this week, young but drinking well, going to wait on opening the other bottles to see how they evolve.
I do not have a lot of experience with chinon to compare, but it was a very nice bottle full of tasty earthiness.
2008 Costers del Siurana Miserere (Priorat) - gave it two hours of air then drank over 5. Feels like there is very little age on this, tannins still there, solid acid. Primary fruit with a little bit of soil and tobacco behind - not a slight wine, but you don’t necessarily feel the 14.5% alcohol. Worked very nicely with braised short rib, and wish I had another to see what happens in a few years.
Stéphane Murat Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits 2023
Not bad. Red-berried with slight herbal notes. Medium+ acidity with some grainy tannins showing up. Decent length with slight oak on the finish. Good QPR ÷ upside on cellaring for 3 to 5 years.
Château de France 2012
I’ve had some decent and bad bottles of this. The last ones had very little fruit and were left with bitter tannins and pronounced acidity. This was the best yet. Red and dark berries, oak and tobacco leaf. Some bricking on the rim. The tannins are still a little lively and oaky, better concentration on the mid-palate than previous bottles, good length. Lots of sediment. Good with NZ grass-fed beef burgers, fried prosciutto, raclette cheese, dijonnaise and caramelized onions. Sides were sweet potato fries and oven grilled asparagus.
Late night add-on:
Albert Grivault Bourgogne Blanc 2017
Last bottle of a bunch. I won’t be buying this anymore because in QC the price has crept up to a level I’m not comfortable with anymore for a generic Bourgogne Blanc.
Oxidized.
Btw with an hour or so in the decanter, it drank nicely, but over the rest of the night it blossomed into a beautiful wine. Tom always set out to prove you could make great Cabernet in the Russian river and give these time in the cellar and then some air and I’m convinced
We thoroughly enjoyed it! Took about 30 mins to open up. Lots of red fruits on the nose and palate. Maybe a hint of pencil shavings and violet? High acid. Light bodied but very smooth and elegant with a medium finish.
