What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

2018 Cameron Wadsworth was just incredible, easily the greatest Cameron blanc I’ve tasted.

I picked this up at Costco. Tastes like Chablis, not overly complex, but a good value for $21.

Mixed case just arrived, needed an early check-in on the Baby Gonon. Very nice stuff but not on par with some recent vintages. Solid typicity, early maturing. Will crack open the St Joe next.

Quite a nice surprise:

Château Lilian Ladouys - St.Estèphe 2015

Mostly blackberry and cedar on the nose, along with faint vanilla and oak, then a velvety, cuddly mouthful of creamy blackberry and black cherry, neatly offset by a saline streak midpalate and some earthy St.Estèphe spice. With time, red fruits emerge too, and a wave of crisp blackcurrant on the finish. Overall very enjoyable and much more to my taste than the 09 and 10. Not quite as international in style as before. 90 pts
This was a Cru Bourgeois at the time - like many of its peers, it left the classification to join the dozens of Left Bank wannabees in that No Mans Land between the CBs and the CCs, in search of higher prices.
I’m not sure that the acquisition of Lafon-Rochet, just across the road, by Ladouys’ owner Jacky Lorenzetti, will help that ambition.

At a restaurant to go with a potage à l’oseille (bad pairing) and some rognons à la moutarde (great pairing):

Vadio Barraida 2012
Very nice nose. It almost pinottes: red cherries mainly with other red berries, maybe some red plums, deep earthy bass line mingling with florals and a little VA lift (very subdued). On the palate the fine tannins are still showing up, the acidity is medium but from the nose I expected more, the mid-palate is lacking a little in concentration but before it becomes hollow, the finish shapes up on meaty notes with a mineral kiss. Nice wine, probably on the down slope if you want to keep some fruit on the palate.

Great Thanksgiving with family and friends. All the wines were enjoyable, especially the Ridge and the York Creek. Carlisle had a little heat but still great flavor. I was concerned about the Copain Eaglepoint Syarh but it was not at all in decline! I forgot I had the Soliste but it too was in great shape.

Nice! How did the Krug show?

I’m the wrong person to ask, sorry. Hopefully others more knowledgeable than me will chime in.

I thought the Cristal the best of the bunch.

Isn’t @Rohit_B n Chicago as well?

I thought it needed a couple years but seems to have the stuffing to be really good.

All of the wines showed well. If I were forced to pick a WOTN I would go with the Cos

I wasn’t present for this bottle, but every 172 i have had has been shut down too hard for me to properly evaluate.

Well bummer

Why? Drink something else while it sleeps.

But I want it now. /extreme Veruca Salt voice

j/k. I was thinking about opening one in a few weeks. But if it isn’t ready, it isn’t ready.

It was tight but did open up after a bit of air. It’s my second favorite of the 169-172 lineup.

Patience, Grasshopper.

If you have multiple and want a reference point, then of course feel free. But it isn’t exciting right now, and might be a disappointment if you have only 1 or 2 and want it to be great.

I’ve found them tight but accessible after a bit of air, unlike the 170 and 171.
