I think he’s just one of those Chicago myths… ![]()
and . . . ?
What a superb CM village wine. Perfumed, silky, intense and long. Such a lovely wine with tons of dark red fruits, fine silky tannins and great balance. Delicate and fine boned but lots of density and packs quite a lot of hidden power. Up there with Mugnier and Roumier for the very top CM village wines.
2023 Florence Cholet Bourgogne Blanc Cote d’Or
Started with a sip at a tasting of a wide range of white Burgundy a few months ago . . . One of four different bottles that we brought home . .first full bottle was very enjoyable . . . . Recently bought three more . . .
New to exploring Bourgogne, tasted some Chablis over the past several years, mostly village level with a sprinkling of Premier Cru. This is different, less electric and stony mineral, but lively and pleasant vanilla tinged fruit, more apple than citrus. It pleases me and is versatile with food, which is all that really matters. But I would not mind hearing tasting impressions from more knowledgeable folks ~$35.

It’s nice. Nose is very pretty. Medium-bodied. Plenty of red fruits. Rather “crunchy” with a bit of chalky finish. Some structure so I think it would benefit from a couple years bottle age at least.
Very broad and reductive (ha!), but that’s a good descriptive difference between Chablis and white Burg, I would say.
We had the 2019 over the week. Really enjoyable wine, offering a lot, and asking little. Enough acidity to work with food, and dense enough fruit to cushion it. A very serious un-serious wine.
‘77 Taylor Fladgate is pure magic in a bottle (with a thick layer of something like swamp mud at the bottom of the bottle).
Good to know! I think I have a couple of those…
I have a couple left also. They definitely should be stood up for a week decanted and filtered before drinking.
2013 Hartford Court Seascape Pinot Noir
Mature and very nice. Dark fruits and plum and notes of underbrush. Probably at its peak 2-3 years ago, but still very enjoyable.
12 Vina Ardanza La Rioja Alta, this is apex Tempranillo drinking. Wish I had a lot more Tempranillo in the cellar.
I’ve had several great bottles of that over the past five years, what an insane value. Great wine!
Yes those are great wines, but how do they fare with age— anyone knows them well?
This bottle was no longer primary, full secondary notes. I drink very little Tempranillo as my cellar is super full but these wines from LRA and also Muga are great value buys.
Small sample size, but both 1989 and 2000 Ardanza have been alive and kicking in the last couple years. I think Tempranillo is just generally a long aging grape so when made well in a vin de garde style like these it can sort of just cruise along.
