What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

The cartoon wallpaper is a nice touch! Kid’s bedroom?

Phil, I salute and identify with your generous urge to help get your father in law’s bottles in order.

My very-patient and organized wife is bemused at how much I enjoy spending hours organizing the cellar, yet my home office is an random scrum of paper piles and teetering book towers. :woman_shrugging:

Two wines that I consider absolutely wonderful. Hope you are having a blast!

Old kid’s playroom! Well spotted! :+1:

No fancy picture but this was spectacular

Burgundy as I like it.
This is not exactly overly complex, but delicious nonetheless.

Yup, just as you describe it. That’s one’s a little young, no?

Really fun wine. Was a hit with some guests over the weekend and opened my last bottle tonight.

• 2016 Cheval des Andes

This was good, but no more than that: very good acidity, but lacking in distinctiveness especially in the mid palate. I don’t mean hollow, I just mean… meh. I’ve had other vintages of CdA that have been a lot more interesting than this one, and it’s the second time with a 2016, so it’s not the bottle. This wasn’t exactly a disappointment, it was more like driving a boring luxury car. Went great with hangar steaks and chimmi churri sauce.

I just visited Verduno . . . . Pelaverga really hit the spot across multiple producers, especially during a heat wave.

It is fully open in its youthful phase. Not sure where some of these 21’s will go with age, so why not drink it now

Do you think these wines (not 2016 specifically) have aging potential? Ie is there real pedigree, or is this a case of slapping a brand name on?

I think these wines have durability. I haven’t seen a lot of evidence (admittedly based only on 3 vintages) that they really improve after a decade. There is a real pedigree at work — however for my palate, I’d generally prefer a price-equivalent Bordeaux.
These are not bad wines. In some ways they are to my tastes superior to spoofy Napa cabs. At the same time they aren’t all that interesting.

Adrien Lattard is making some noise, quietly.

A really excellent Puligny in a warm vintage that’s crisp and tight without overt reduction. Very good indeed.

Two unusual bottles, both very good.

Altus
Grenache Blanc + Clairette from Languedoc. Low acidity but with drive, grip and tension.
Lagrein
On a milder side, dark, deep, brooding.

Vosne-Romanée 2021 from Domaine Mugneret Gibourg; An outstanding example of a vintage I truly love.

The wine is all about finesse, clarity of red fruit, and elegant structure, with the domaine’s signature grace.

from what I have tasted so far, the sisters were especially successful in capturing the best of 2021.

1997 Cos D’Estournel.

I wish my pal @Robert.A.Jr were here. Of course, I always wish my pal Robert were here, but tonight especially because this Asparagus-flavored Cos would stroke his pleasure centers in a most profound way.

OK, maybe I am glad my pal Robert isn’t here.
