What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

(Please don’t judge the stumpy glass, I’m house-sitting for my in-laws)

Poor planning on your part does not constitute a requirement for leniency on our part :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

2020 Clotilde Davenne Chablis Grand Cru Bougros

Closed; needs another 3~5 years. Acidity on the low side as can be expected from the warm vintage and vineyard, however it is devoid of any grassy tones that plague 2020 Chablis. DIAM 10 closure.

2007 Dunn Howell Mountain Napa Cabernet and 2016 PYCM St, Aubin en Remilly.
The 2016 was everything you would want in a PYCM–not too much reduction, but the intensity, the denseness (without being heavy) of the wine is just so enjoyable, wirh taut citrus rounded out by yellow fruits.
The Dunn was in a auperb place: remarkably savory, with a little white mushroom due to the age. Has Bordeaux complexity with California oomph.

What did u think ? Any notes ? Decant ? I have plenty of their 13 cabs and never touched one yet thanks

It was very easy to enjoy. After about 30 minutes of air without decant was perfect. Dark fruited full bodied with some chocolate tones. The oak was there but kind of helped it keep some edge in the background. Everyone loved it. Unforntuantely was my last bottle!

Thanks

I don’t care for Chenin Blanc so much, but this is delicious!

Probably helped that it was lean and crisp and didn’t have many ‘chenin’ notes?!

Oddly it wasn’t lean at all.

Ok! But probably still had fewer ‘chenin’ notes than still wine?

No wool for sure.

Currently at my in-laws and my FIL has some health issues. Which means that some of the work he had started remained incomplete.

A long time ago, I had convinced him of organizing his wine collection because about 30% of it was wasted due to poor cellar management and subpar storage.

Today I decided to go through all the wine and put it on basic shelves so we can at least see the bottles and get to them. I also organized them by region (he owns 50% Bordeaux, 40% Burgundy, 5% CĂŽte-du-RhĂŽne and 5% other) and by age range.

I got more done but this is the picture I took. Tomorrow, I’m finishing it all up.

And because I now know most of the wines he has, I grabbed something “questionable” for tonight’s meal. I won’t open any good bottles while his health prevents him from drinking wine

Cave des Vignerons de Bel Air Entre Chien et Loup 2003
Never heard of this Coop before and a 22 year old Morgon could always be sketchy depending on the style. Popped the cork which looked okay. I couldn’t tell if it was the influence from the Leffe Ruby I just had (disgusting beer if there is one!) or if it was the wine but this smells and tastes exactly like cherry juice! The tannins have disappeared, the alcohol is imperceptible and it’s all cherry. One of the weirdest wines I’ve had. And even during dinner and long after the Ruby beer horror, it still stayed the same. There is one bottle left!

2022 Drew Fog-Eater Pinot. Lovely rich color, primary red fruit with some forest floor. Nice tannins, good finish. This one always goes quickly.

Celebratory bottle for getting my WSET 3 exam results.
Aromas of cranberry, strawberry, and bread dough. Similar on the palate with the addition of mineral notes. Drinking well now and should develop nicely in the future.
