Wanted a change of pace from my usual summer stuff, and this 2018 hit the spot. Very tasty, with the weight I was looking for.

Amazing wine meet up last night at Saison private lounge. Theme was “interesting bottles over $250”….and then other bottles were opened at the end of the night
Really cool group arranged via Reddit. Nearly everyone under 40! My wife and I were the old ones at 45. Great to see young people getting into wine.
The next event will be “favorite bottle under $50”.

Bought a couple of these a few years ago and frankly they were tiring, but only paid $20 for them from liquidated cellar. How was yours??

Oh wow. How was that 2009 Jamet?

• 2021 Tyler Fiddlestix Pinot Noir.

Very nice CA PN, plump but not gross, cherries, violets, dried stalks. For me at the top end of the range of pleasant richness but still inside the box. Under the fruit oomph there is a good amount of tannic structure and some complexity.

Fantastic, and I am not much of a fan of Loosen. I bought this on release in 2002.

And is it much improved for being floured?

Volnay blind with young Lafarge, Old Pousse d’Or, and Teenage Lafon. A master class in how Burgundy has changed. Despite their youth, all of the Lafarge wines were incredibley accessible and the 17 Clos des Chênes in particular was on fire with bright red fruit for days.

Im slightly biased because I brought that bottle. We picked it up in Paris from a wine store that we learned about on Wineberserkers. It came from the store that dusty. We also bought an ‘05 that is still in our cellar

I think it was top 2 bottles of the night for me. Incredible nose. It’s clear it could have stayed in bottle for another decade. I double decanted it 3 hours before. We revisited the remaining amount at the end of the night and it was even more open.

As an aside, if you are ever in Paris, you can also order it with dinner at Willi’s Bar. We had it last November, and it was cheaper than what it would cost to buy it from a wine store in the US.

Ulysse Collin Les Maillons Rosé de Saignée
Dégorgement 2022, base 2018. Remarkable depth and horizontal aromatic spread — blood orange, wild cherry, dried rose, and savory herbs. Chalky, vinous structure with serious gastronomic presence.

Wow that is a gorgeous color!

Awesome thank you! I have 2 bottles.

Also, I have actually been to Willi’s. Been 15 years, but that was one of stops when I was there.

Look at that color!

Seldom have I seen another grower achieve such a vivid, deep color in a saignée rosé.

Ulysse Collin is truly among the benchmark among the growers in the region. Too bad his wines are mostly being served in restaurants now a days

bertrand gautherot comes to mind for producing quite a similar style of rose :slightly_smiling_face:

The color is my favorite thing about it. His rosé is the only wine in his lineup that I don’t think is fantastic.

That’s the beauty of Ulysse Collin’s wines, they spark passionate views.

Personally, his rosé de saignée stands out as one of the most expressive and vinous in Champagne, with serious structure, depth, and character!
