A study on 2020s (no discernible smoke on any of these):
Ceritas Trout Gulch Chardonnay
EIEIO Yates-Conwill Pinot Noir
Di Costanzo DiCo Cabernet Sauvignon
A bit “closed” in comparison to the 2 Pichons. Tannins more prominent, but very refined. Still plenty of black currants and dark fruits with graphite, cedar and tobacco. A very strong showing, but needs some time in the bottle to flesh out imho. I would be inclined to try another one in 5 years rather than say, 10. As with the other 22s I’ve tried, it’s quite fresh with pleasant ripeness - just a little buried at the moment, but it’s a very nice Lynch Bages.
Haha! Very good, but not as open as the Pichons. It’s a great Lynch Bages though - just needs some time. I went into more detail in another response.

A Loire CG geek favorite. Big wafts of bell pepper and tobacco. With the ripeness of the 2018 vintage, definitely showing much more dark fruit profile than normal. Guion is one of those rare producers that can excel in it very ripe years as well.
@Julian_Marshall take note, buddy!
A bit surprised to see you opening a Deux Monts at such a young age. But also glad to hear I can pop one soon without feeling guilty!
On a related note, have you tried a Grand Mont yet?
‘96 Corsion Cabernet Sauvignon. This bottle was in absolutely pristine condition and showed beautifully. Couldn’t ask for more.
2010 Domaine Guion Cuvée des Deux Monts Bourgueil
First of a 3-bottle at release purchase and stored since. Drank over 2 days. I might have paid $18 when purchased, but today this tasted like a $7 bottle of wine. I was excited for some cellar-aging improvement, but this sadly showed more like a simple bottle of wine without the complexity and nuances of an aged bottle of a good Loire cabernet franc.
It’s 2018! Not your average year in Loire! I really didn’t buy much in that vintage
This is one Loire producer I’ve yet to try - thanks - got to get some!
You describe the wine well. I imported them for the first couple years of my company from around 2007-2009. Can’t remember exactly but I think the basic one retailed for around $9-10 and the Prestige for maybe $13-14. They were pretty solid value. The thing I like about them is they aren’t trying to be anything more than they are. Honest, simple, everyday wines with points for being a relatively early adopter of organic farming. I think best consumed within a few years of release.
I drink quite a bit of Guion Prestige and Domaine over the years, always within 3 or 4 months from release and enjoyed them for being the good, old-school Loire Cab Franc that are available for very low costs. I decided to buy a few Deux Monts and with the somewhat more vin-de-garde descriptors when this hit my email, I sent them straight to my remote storage.
To your point, I would expect these to have been good had I drank them when they were young.
Very nice! Big and burly but hides the alcohol well and has freshness to go along with the power. White pepper, spice, black fruit.
Decent Thursday at @Claus_Jeppesen
Jura and Nebbiolo is still my thing!
Overnoy infanticide
Notes please! V curious about the Naudin and Billard.
