What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

2015 Chateau Gloria

and?

I have a 2018 McGuigan Semillion Bin 9000. I think I paid €6 at the time. Does it have the stones to go for a while?

Glad you had a good experience — let’s face it, Venice is one of the few places in Italy where you actually have to try to find a good restaurant.

Yup it will last for decades easily. McGuigan makes a traditional style of semillon that will age for long time.

Very solid! it opened up nicely after about an hour and had really nice dark fruits, cedar and sweet tobacco notes. I’m a bit of a novice with Bordeaux, but I felt like it had sort of drying (powdery?) tannins, that while not overly firm or anything, had me craving a nice steak to go with it. Don’t see any reason why this couldn’t cruise for a while. Will be interested in seeing what it’s like tomorrow. Again, very nice to my tastes.

True this.
Plus, as magical and beautiful the city is, it also happens to be the biggest ripoff in all of Italy.

I agree. Coming in from the Dolomites we were taken aback by the sheer number of tourists even now in the off-season. I cannot say i love the city. But we’ve got another day here. We’ll see if that changes.

Nice lineup there!

How was the 19 Tremblay NSG Murgers? I didn’t realize she made one.

I was fortunate to try her 19 Chambolle 1er feusselottes last Fall at a vertical tasting and it was wonderful.

Cécile out performed her self in 19, the whole lineup is exquisite including les murgers.

Coffee to start the day. We decided to do the touristy thing and stop at Florian:

Good lunch at Osteria da Bubi with a couple of glasses of Marjan Simčič Sauvignon Blanc. Lovely.

We had dinner at the apartment to put the kids in bed earlier tonight. I stopped by a small wine shop here in Venice and the owner recommended this:

Mauro DrÎné 2021
Nebbiolo di Dronero with other local cĂ©pages. Long macerations and then 1 year in barrel. Raspberry, roses and dried herbs on the nose. Powdery tanins with soft grip, relatively smooth palate with medium acidity kicking in on the mid-palate but the alcohol sticks out slightly. Decent finish on raspberry liqueur. It doesn’t feel integrated. The alcohol bothers me and the acidity is also sticking out. Disjointed. Not a rebuy for me.

Well, I didn’t open these. @Claus_Jeppesen did for his birthday dinner. I just drank them

I forgot to take images of quite a few wines, but here is a few of them
 thanks Claus.

How is the 1985 Fonsalette Syrah holding up? I drank my last bottle about 7 years ago and it was wonderful and seemed to have plenty of life remaining.

It was terrific. Fully mature of course, but the nose is still perfectly youthful. The mid palate took a little while to fill in, then rounded out well. I was afraid it might be a bit delicate, but I need not have worried and should have decanted.

The 2016 Gonon was firing on all cylinders yesterday. Beautifully open and so enjoyable. Complex and beguiling. Fine tannins, great mouthfeel and a very expressive palate. Double yum + was my rating

Very nice. Some vanilla on the nose. Palate showing me pineapple and pears. Very nice acidity Not too oaky at all - just a touch. Even better the next day!
