What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

That’s some impressive glassware there.

My current favorites are the (Josephine pictured) and the Conterno sensory

Thanks for the look-see. I just grabbed a few of these off WineBid, cheap enough (for Magdelaine, these days) to be worth a shot.

Is that Kurt’s new glass? Bought a few myself. Love them all. Only way to drink that Colgin. If we have a larger group drinking i use the original Zalto for the group and pull the Josephenne for my wife and I. Basically, its so I know which glass in mine.

Drunk following a comment on another site that these need drinking up.

PNP, whiff of VA, quickly blew off to leave light red fruited wine. After an hour or two a more complex deeper red with tobacco and floral tones. **1/2 on opening, **** with dinner.

An Andremily offer came out the other day so I felt compelled to open and Andremilly. 2017 EABA Pretty big. Upon opening. it was all over the place and very tight. Decanted then followed every hour or so. At about 6 hours it began to open and remind me why I bye these monsters. Luscious

Small tasting of the new Marnes Blanches arrivals. The 2022 Poulsard, more like a rosé from Tavel or a Rosé de Riceys than a red wine. Apparently just been bottled, a bit reducitve, nice cherry notes and strong acidity, a specialists wine, nice with Salami, have some duck confit lined up, I think this will work.

Chardonnay Les Normins 2021, has the Coche factor, tense/tight, the acidity is of the charts. I really liked this until we tried the 2022 Les Molates, for me so far the white wine of the year, this just destroys the Les Normins. Well balanced, nutty, lime, tropical fruits, quite sharp acidity, but not so piercing as the the Normins, really persisitent finish. Massive potential, I Burgundy one pays four times as much.

The Savagnin, Les Molates 2022. I really like very young Savagnin, the oxidisation is more like whisper, the tropical fruit comes more to the fore. Very good but not at the level of the chardonnay. With the Ganevat allocation coming in late January, it will be interesting to compare.

One of my favourite domaines. Been buying the wines (mainly whites) every year since the 2015 vintage. Both Molates cuvees always drinks well at release. Les Normins requires a bit of time, but is a deeper and more complex wine in my view.

My favourites are the Chardonnay En Quatre Vis and Savagnin Aux Bois though.

For me they are one of the best examples of what natural wines can also be. Energized clean wines with no obvious funk (sometimes there will be some funk in the red wines).

Ridiculous value (atleast at European prices).

2020 M. & S. Bouchet, Fleur Bleue, 100% grolleau. 13%.

First time trying grolleau as a red. This initially had a complex, funky blue cheese type aroma (VA?) that grew more and more off-putting until it disappeared after a few hours. On the palate, medium-light body and super juicy with a textured finish. Day two this became simpler and much easier to drink but still vibrant.

In Ohio at my daughter’s college to celebrate her 21st birthday which hits at midnight tonight.

All 2002 of course. Starting with the Dom magnum tonight. Lucky (spoiled AF) kid

TWO BURGUNDIES - (7/12/2023)

As I tasted these, I realised that they were representative of the Burgundies that I fell in love with a few years back (and started collecting when they still were relatively affordable). Unfortunately I don’t have many chances to open them because they are too serious for casual dinners with non-wine friends, but not serious enough for most of the Burgundy dinners that we do. Glad to have had an occasion to do so, especially the PYCM which I’ve been sitting on - I always hesitate to open them given the current prices.

  • 2017 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Pernand-Vergelesses Les Belles Filles Blanc - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses
Agree with previous notes that this was more PYCM than terroir, but not complaining at all. Reductive gunflint notes on opening but developed an attractive bouquet of orchard fruit. Palate was balanced and seamless; loved the gorgeous texture as I think PYCM does concentration without weight perfectly. A long-distance runner but drinking well now. (93 pts.)
  • 2013 Domaine Louis Boillot et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
I know not everyone can agree if borderline corked is a thing but I thought this was a textbook example. Superb lifted, floral aromatics with fleeting wet cardboard notes. Tart cherry notes on the palate but slightly muted. Some sweetness on entry, with spicy dark red fruit. A lovely airy, satiny texture that was almost Vosne-like (or as a previous taster said, Rousseau-like but not enough personal experience to verify). Would have been more balanced if not for the slight cork taint.

My first 2022 from Ludes. As always really good. Already approachable. Leans more towards the 2020 than 2021 (the only other two vintages of ‘Monster’ that I’ve tasted)

Happy with this wine, especially at $36. Filled a swing top bottle to the top and that left me with a little over a glass to sample from the bottle. 1st time allocated and according to the mailer it’s the last bottling.
