It was our turn to host Thanksgiving and we have some stressful family members that we hard cap at Cru Beaujolais… So we opened the Lafon on Black Friday to celebrate
2016 Pol Roger Brut Vintage
First try of this vintage. I liked it the first night and even more on the second. Feels more open now than the ‘15.
2016 Roche De Bellene Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes
Aromas of red berries, some wood. Elegant palate, raspberries, lacking in length and complexity. Not quite the concentration I want from a Vosne. Somewhat of a disappointment unfortunately.
Once I heard about how some of the vintages are conceived I’m surprised anything drinkable could end up in the bottle.
The color on that LLC is lighter than expected for a 1990!
Try this if you want something different. From the Canary Islands, highly mineral and volcanic, very saline with excellent acidity and very low alcohol (11.5%). Too young, if anything: buy an older vintage if you find it. 98 Parker for 2022; “only” 97+ for this 2021.
Thanks for the note but please never stop posting your wine with that background, beautiful!
I actually prefer them on the younger side. Kept a 6pack of the 2016 around for a few years. They age okay, I just don’t think they really gain much from it. Prefer them on the fresh side. Great wine though.
No particular reason other than a boy and his toys. I only recently picked one up after upgrading from the Ah So So just playing around with it a few times.
Opens a little lean on the pop. After a couple hours being open, the body fills out. Notes of merde, 96 acidity and lots of tertiary stuff going on. Drinking very well.
The lemon slice didn’t help much either!
No worries. I had the cork break (dried out) on a 17 Vincent Dancer Meursault Les Corbins and needed one last night, just curious.
How was it? Have a few waiting as well.
Delicious but definitely best at the end of the night. Glad i grabbed 6 bc they will be hard to leave alone. Saved half for tmrw.
Decanter and follow might be a good choice then, thanks!
2000 Ch Petit Village. Fully mature soft and round with lovely balance and good length. This is drinking really well and does not seem to need anymore cellaring. Plums, wet earth, forest floor, iron etc etc. Yummy
Thursday with sushi: Initially, opened with quenching lemon citrus tartness and a bit of a bite.
But with airtime , it mellowed into toasty, very lightly sweet glass of wonderful blanc de blanc. Presumably low dosage. 12% Alc.
At first, I did not love it, and then I did.
This bottle makes a good argument for the value of letting your bubbly breathe a bit.
Saturday night semi-celebration with seared duck breast and mushrooms.
This blossomed into a remarkably fresh glass with 15 minutes+ of airtime.
Dark berry and fresh plum fruit, integrated with a welcome bite of complexity, mellowing med tannins and low-med acid. 13% Alc.
This was delicious and integrated, ready to drink. For fans of fruit but not-over-the-top fruit.
Mr B and Dr B chillin’ by the pool with a few Schraders.
I still have a handful of pre-Evil Empire bottles remaining.
