What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

No snow yet?

Hi Brodie,

I have had plenty of great Jadot reds over the past 3 years. They simply need 20+ years. Glad yours showed well.

Jeremy

  • 2019 Jean-Marc Millot Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (19/10/2023)
Very warm vintage Burgundy. Primary, dark and confected blue/red fruit. Too dense and viscous for my liking. Another 2019 to forget unfortunately, I should really stop opening these. (87 pts.)
  • 2010 Clusel-Roch CĂ´te-RĂ´tie Les Grandes Places - France, RhĂ´ne, Northern RhĂ´ne, CĂ´te-RĂ´tie (18/10/2023)
After my good run of northern Rhones this was a slight disappointment in spite of the vaunted vintage. Classic nose of olives and smoked bacon, great restraint on the palate despite the warm vintage. Mainly red raspberry and cherry fruit with a hint of blueberry. Some underlying greenness and rough tannins were two detracting things to me. Not as seamless as I would’ve liked, needs more time to integrate. (91 pts.)

Barolo and white truffle night. All the wines were in good condition.

What are those Barolos, and any specific thought on one or the other?

Lobster night. White truffle night. Dare I say this all sounds absolutely wonderful! :wine_glass:

Producer’s name is dr. Perin Maurizio, was told the winery closed its doors sometime in the 80’s.

Even though the ‘78 was in magnum (actually 1750ml) it felt the oldest, but not dead yet. Remarkably it had the best aroma of them all, tar and leather dominated, but was the least exciting on the palate.

The ‘61 felt like the youngest, still some fruit left in it. Great aroma too, the most mushroomey of them all with notes of tar and leather. The best match with the food (tajarin al tartufo).

The ‘74 was somewhere in between. The ‘78 and ‘61 was improving in the glas still after 30-45 minutes while the ‘74 went over the hill quite fast after pnp. None of the wines were decanted, didnt dare.

The 13 Roulot was excellent. The 15 Clos de la Marechale was a bit ripe and simple and the 82 Magdelaine was a ripper and just wonderful

Thanks Brodie. Nice brace. Haven’t delved into my 15 Mugniers as yet…may wait a bit based on your impressions!

2015 Chateau Capbern
Opened the first of a three bottle purchase from a few years ago. Intense fruit, but without any strong sense of being ‘fruity. Plum and cassis to me. (Can fruit be just dry and savory?) Graphite mouthfeel and that cigar box thing come to mind as well. Aftertaste of graphite and savory fruit hangs around pleasantly. The taste profile of this wine is different from wines I usually drink, but this is very enjoyable and interesting drinking.

I had a bottle from this producer…not the exact wine you had but an Envinate Lousas. It was good but not trilling the first day…but it transformed itself the next day into an amazing wine. So give these a lot of air, or put them into the cellar for a long dirt nap!

2016 Cerro Red Napa. Spicy, raspberry.

But it was singing on the second day?

2017 Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay Caillerets. Still needs time. But great bones!

Wanted to revisit the 2013 I enjoyed earlier this week

Yes, and was very good a few days after that! But best on the second day (with lots of air the morning of the first day)

Possibly dumb question, but is a brace 3 in Oz?

You are en fuego lately. I love that 82 Magdelaine, but glad you popped a 2011 as well. Love the minty profile, I even bought a 3L, but don’t know why. Just did.

Also, it was more dense and dark fruited on the second day
