Last night, after a good tasting at Susan’s, we had black bean soup with dry sausages, and a 1981 Mayacamas Pinot Noir - no oxidation and good secondary fruit.
When I tasted after opening it seemed a bit insipid and past its peak. After 15 minutes, it was a blackberry joy tied up with a leather bow. Beautiful with the stewed wild boar and mushroom sauce over spaghetti I had for dinner.
2010 Abrente Albarino, 2011 Quivet Sauvignon Blanc, 2003 Neal Cab Rutherford Dust, 2006 Carlisle Zinfandel Rossi Ranch. And a third of a bottle of 15 Year Old Pappy Van Winkle. Need to hydrate now.
2010 Occhipinti Frappato - first time tasting this. Flavors of cranberry, nice acidity, very refreshing, and a good way to start.
2004 Antoniolo Gattinara- took a long time to open up, but when it did, it showed lovely Nebbiolo characteristics and paired fabulously with gnocchi and oxtail ragu.
