What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 1)

2006 Patricia Green Ribbon Ridge Etzel Block Pinot Noir. Had some green notes and sour cranberry at first. Green notes left after 15 minutes open. Sour cranberry evolved to cran-raspberry. Should have decanted it two hours ago.

VML 2010 SB
Meritage Williamson Wines 2005
Chateauneuf-du-Pape Roger Sabon Reserve 2003 This was corked ! :frowning:

2008 Antica Terra OR pinot noir. Third bottle in three days. I just can’t help myself. Outstanding wine, probably my favorite OR pinot noir.

2002 Littorai Theriot Vineyard Pinot (thanks Tyler!) - my first opened bottle of Littorai and worth waiting for, delicious.

I am so jealous ! Love Littorai and the early 2000 are drinking so well right now !

2009 Ridge Monte Bello

Last night with roast leg of Churro lamb and beets, we had a nice 1997 Ferrari-Carano Tremonte Syrah - cork colored about a quarter inch; good secondary dark berry-currant fruit; barely adequate acidity; with a medium-long developed fruit finish.

08 aubert ritchie chard - flat out sensational! vanilla and lime and almonds and maybe some olive
01 henri boillot corton charlie - excellent, with well delineated flavors and transparency, but simply not as interesting as the aubert

2006 Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils Nuits St. Georges Au Bas de Combe Vieilles with cedar plank, wild caught Pacific salmon - beautiful wine with a very interesting spicy component (one tasting note on this wine states ‘clove’, and I think that’s accurate), and a spectacular Burgundy deal.

Did not even know these were out? So do tell, tasting notes? I loved the '09 Estate Cab and can only imagine that the flagship wine is fantastic.

I get mine as futures, and they arrived in March I think. Not sure if they are available at the winery.

Here are my Cellar Tracker notes:

From 375. Outstanding restrained red fruit. Finishes with a hint of cranberry and some gritty tannins. Quite a bit of sediment. You can sense how this will evolve into a fine aged claret. (94 pts.)

Layers of red fruit. Dusty tannins and balanced acidity. From 375ml. A bit more rustic than the 2008 at same point in time, but this is just delicious and likely will only get even more complex and interesting. Bottles like this are why I love Bdx blends. And Ridge is one of the best. (93 pts.)

Since you asked:

Brought 2 splits to see a UFC fight thinking just in case. Indeed it was needed. The first one had no nose to speak of, but the fruit really came through with such balance and mouth feel. Finish was a +. Host enjoyed it enough to suggest opening the other which I was hoping he was game for. The nose finally appeared if somewhat shy. Really enjoyed it, but was really not the best time to have as watching the action was a big distraction. 94 pts.

Thanks for the notes on the Ridge, Jim! Much appreciated.

Have you tried the Estate Cab yet? Based on how I am reading your notes, you will be pleased.

Cheers!

My pleasure. And, yes. Another CT review:

Almost purple in color around the edges. Some hint of oak on the palate, but it is well-integrated. Red fruit, medium weight. Tannins big but not too big. From a .375, this complemented a simple spaghetti with red sauce. Ok for drinking now, but it is going to be better in a year or two. (91 pts.)

Robert, I drink a lot of Ridge wines, am a member of Ridge’s ATP and Monte Bello ‘clubs,’ and have had good luck (fingers crossed) buying older wines at auction. I feel lucky to have access to world class wines at relatively decent prices. Thanx for reading!

Jim -

Funny, this weekend I was doing a little old-school inventory and realized that I have more Ridge in my “collection” (quotations, 'cause it ain’t much) than anything other producer. Ironic because I am a total Francophile and have just a smidgen of Cali wines here and there, mostly syrahs. I have lots of Ridge Zin, though, and drink 'em likely crazy - four just last week! I appreciate the balanced profile in the Cabs.

Strong note on the Estate Cab, right on the money. I’m a bit more generous on scoring, but that’s splitting hairs.

2009 Golden Eye Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. A little young and restrained with real nice blackberry fruit and good acidity.

Terry Hoage The Pick 2009 - I am so sorry I only bought 4 bottles of this great wine :frowning:

2008 Aliane Chassagne-Montrachet VV (No premox!)
2000 Guigal Chateauneuf-du-Pape (outstanding)
2009 Sojourn Gap’s Crown Pinot Noir
2009 Owen Roe Ex Umbris Syrah (How did this get 92+ pts?)
2010 Bergstrom Old Stones Pinot Noir
2009 Owen Roe Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 Block Red Willow Vineyard (stunning)
2009 Owen Roe Syrah Red Willow Vineyard Chapel Block (almost as stunning)
2007 Owen Roe The Parting Glass Late Harvest Semillon

and I’m sure I’m forgetting some.

2009 Littorai The Pivot Vineyard Pinot Noir. Two years before the start of the WA and IWC early drinking windows, but my first Littorai from the winery and just had to give one a try. I like.

Cheers, [cheers.gif]
