I bought this last week. Pizza Port. loaded with Mosaic. Yes, please!!! Curious to hear what you think.
and thanks for the word on the Claremont — methinks I’ll just continue to pass on that one. Eeeeevvvvvery once in a while I come across a Rye IPA that I like. but usually they’re just too malty for me.

Good thread. I enjoy a nice cold IPA now and then, but don’t try many new ones these days for the simple reason that very few of them come in bottles (avoid cans/bisphenols). I’ll be visiting SoCal this fall for birding, and wonder if there are any local pale ales (ideally < 7% abv, no interest in doubles or triples) in glass to look for there (?).
Short answer is, “Yes.”
Where will you be staying/visiting? Craft beer scene is hyper-local.

Exact places depend on what’s being seen at the moment, but one place we want to spend some time at is San Elijo. Will stay nearby.
You’ll be pretty close to Pizza Port, and I’d recommend going there.

+1. Tons of options, pale ales and otherwise. No glass, but lots (15+) beers on tap served in pint glasses.

Hasn’t most every can these days switched to different types of liners to avoid BPA?

They’re still bisphenols (commonly F and S iirc)
Circling back re Pizza Port’s orange can — I bought more.
PP used to have a pale ale called Ollie Pop (100% mosaic) that one of the brewers took with him to start Los Molinos in San Clemente (cool spot; they call it Ollie and I think it’s slightly different/not as good, but that could be brewery practices, etc.). Anyway… this is pretty darn close to Ollie Pop, but bigger; and I love it!

Thanks for circling back on this. I was keeping my mouth shut about my impression, because I didn’t want to influence yours — I was a bit nonplussed by this one. It lacked the bright/bouncy character I expect and love from Mosaic. Of course, with beers made in this quantity, you always have to wonder about batch variation, as well as storage before, during, and after transport. Hearing how this landed with you, I’m left wondering if maybe my six pack saw some heat somewhere along the way. I’ll give it another try; it’s not like I disliked it — rather, I simply wasn’t wowed by it.
I’ve never heard of Los Molinos – must be pretty small production. Worth a stop next time I’m in San Clemente? Pizza Port sees me every single time I’m going through San Clemente, unless I have a particular time crunch that day; I’d have no problem adding an extra stop, or just mixing it up a bit, if it’s worth it.
I have not. Admittedly, haven’t even seen or heard of it until your post now. I’ll try if/when I see it, though.
