The canning industry used a loophole to get around bisphenol A by just using F & S which doesn’t help anything except skirt the laws intent. These were the first generation “answer”, but most everybody should be on the second gen at this point. The call it BPANI (non-intent). There’s zero BP(x) in the product but they call it NI because they can’t guarantee absolute zero since the stuff is everywhere in the environment and especially water.
I guess this might be a good question to ask the breweries though.
The can producers website I went on said they don’t even manufacture gen 1 cans anymore. Further reading concludes that it was California banning Gen 1 (closed the loophole) which essentially caused all the major producers to just switch completely to 2, which contains no bisphenola in production. The bill has been passed for a couple of years but only went into effect at the start of this year.
So there might be some small brewery elsewhere that’s getting old cans on the cheap, but seemingly not legally in CA. Hurray for California!
Yeah, I read about BPA-NI, but even if the new lining materials don’t contain bisphenols, they are still some kind of plastic resin. I’ll stick to glass, thanks.
I prefer as few microplastics as possible as well. Was Just trying to clarify the bisphenol discussion, since I don’t think it’s the concern any longer.
Dug deep today for a brunch Great Lakes Blackout Stout 2013. This was the inaugural release which was in response to the region wide Blackout. This was the type of bottle you waited in line for in that era.
I wasn’t expecting much but this was pretty remarkable, probably due to its heavy IBU’s which are still prominent (I like!…no sweet modern pastry stout here). Very slight mellowing on the plate and less carb or course but otherwise still pretty lively.
a TIPA tipping scales at nearly 12%, and you’re surprised to be feeling it the next day??? Ok. LOL! (looks great, by the way, but that’s something I would never order)
Very cool. Apricot and Raspberry still strong on the Fou and Rose, respectively? I love both of those iterations, especially the Fou, which is downright ridiculous.
Yeah, the fruit was still fully there, especially raspberry, but no signs of fading with either. I have one Cantillon left - Sang Bleu. I don’t think I’ve ever had a haskap berry but looking forward to it.
Long-delayed reply here. I think your assessment re: how Mosaic-y the beer shows is very fair. Having had a couple more, I still love it, but more because it feels very much in the Pizza Port style I enjoy so much and less because of its varietal (?) character.
Los Molinos is a great location, right in the surf ghetto. I’d say it’s definitely worth a stop, at least once. They have a good board, their flagship won a medal recently for whatever that’s worth, and the food is good.
