What BEER are you drinking? (Part 2)

Dogfish Head’s innovative time has long past.

Much like Great Lakes here (unfortunately) or Founders up north I think. They’ve become steady regional brands that are just content.

I will say if you ever see the World Wide Stout or to a lesser degree 120 minute that have been aged in Utopia barrels buy those. The stout is possibly my all time favorite and the IPA is elevated interesting. It’s for sure the best aging vessel I’ve ever come across from bottle.

It says on a label of Coniston Bitter that it best enjoyed at the Black Bull Inn, yards from the brewery.

They aren’t lying……

An absolutely delicious Brown Ale from one of Belgium’s masters - now back in the American market. A must try.

Thats the Goudenband?

New name to me. I’ve been drinking Corsendonk for years, but have not seen it anywhere in the U.S. in several years (and almost never on the west coast). Do you have any way of finding out if it’s still being imported?

Hi Alan -

Corsendonk changed importers. Expecting a fall rollout. Fairly big new importer, so it should be available in your area.

The Goudenband from Liefmans has also been out of the market for years, and is just being re-introduced. There is also a terrific Kriek in the lineup. Duvel owns the brewery, so it also should be back in your market. Both are in 4pk/11.2oz bottles, so look for them.

The beer inside is as boring as the can outside.

Do you remember what it was that you didn’t like about this PP brew? Whichever bi-monthly brew they were canning in May was just okay, imo — not as good as Swami’s — because it was maltier than I prefer.

That pretty much sums-up my historical opinion of Madewest. That said, I recently had their hazy (again) and for the first time ever I actually thought it was better than average. So maybe they’re starting to figure things out just a little. Maybe … ?

It had a kind of creamy (malty), kinda of sweet citrus thing going on. Maybe the biggest miss for me of all the Pizza Port IPAs I’ve had.

Thanks for the report — you almost certainly saved me $15. These bi-monthly releases are sometimes great, sometimes fine, and sometimes not so good. The great ones keep me trying them on the regular, and Swami’s will forever be in my fridge.

Swami’s is always available at my pad, too.

Had a TDH, Triple Hazy from Monterrey on draught that was cool but just too much of everything for day drinking.

Went here next, super easy to enjoy. From CDMX, pisterability translates to drinkability!

For Ozzy.

Been limiting myself to just cask ales since they’re so difficult to find in the U.S. Still crushing it in Edinburgh and now Durham

We’re going to Edinburgh next Spring. Let me know if you have any great drinking recommendations.

The top two are in Edinburgh just West of the Royal Mile, literally across from each other in the Haymarket district, not too far from the train station. Not every place has food and taps, so if you’re traveling with non-drinkers you may need to plan accordingly. Haymarket has very good traditional food and very good draft, Ryrie’s is great draft but no food. I’m at a point where I’m peaking my head in just to see if there’s something on cask I haven’t had yet and moving on……

This is your friend. If you don’t see one, chances are good there isn’t something interesting inside. I saw a few exceptions, but only a few. Even the hotel bar we are at in Durham has one; if they don’t have at least two casks taps, they aren’t trying
