What BEER are you drinking? (Part 2)

Well you’ll never guess what? I got offered an 8-pack at Christmas! Looks like my beer holidays are not over .

Brasserie de la Divatte Belgian Pale Ale Trompe Souris
Mostly toasted oats on the nose. Tad of sweetness, oats again with a slightly mousy aftertaste. I hope this was flawed because it wasn’t good.

Do tell, please.

Notes of brown bread and toffee. A good and true to style Bock.

Only one IPA in cans at Monkish yesterday, so I bought it. Without even checking the hop bill, I bet this is Galaxy-dominant. I can taste it clearly. Galaxy is far from my favorite hop. But this is still good.

Interesting. Pretty sure I can taste mosaic (which I love), but I’ve never heard of someone make a similar comment about hops, not that I’ve spent any amount of time in beer forums.

NB: RIP Pizza Port’s Olley Pop, a mosaic pale ale that left when the brewer did, apparently. Not sure why he was able to take what I assume would have been IP, but alas.

I’m with ya on loving Mosaic, and – like you – it’s often pretty obvious to me. Many of my favorite IPAs are Mosaic-heavy, and it’s one of the few hops I feel works well standing alone.

Wanted something for dessert.

I would suspect that the new brewer at Pizza Port didn’t want to make the beer, or had a new beer queued up to replace it. I would very much doubt that someone would take their brewing sheets with them when they left. There are dozens, probably hundreds of little nuances in how beer (particularly hoppy beers) are brewed, and the new brewer could just do thing differently. It could be that the new brewer just does things a bit differently, and wanted to change the line-up.

I spent the last week in Palm Springs with no Heater Allen/Gold Dot to drink, but I did find some Moonlight Reality Czech and Death and Taxes, which were both excellent. I still prefer our Pils and Pils de Pils on the lighter side, but Death and Taxes is a really superb dark beer.

@Rick_Allen I was at a Cider bar in Oakland (Redfield cider ) when what to my wondering eyes should they have but cans of the Heater Allen Pils which I purchased a four pack of on my way out. Had one saturday evening and it was quite nice, very refreshing and tasty.

Btw, if you are interested in Cider I can highly recommend Redfield Cider in Oakland CA. They’ve got ciders on tap and bottles/cans and a nice little bar and tables both inside and out.

Went to Campsite Brewery a couple nights ago. Opened by one (or some?) of the guys from Bottle Logic. I’ve heard some big numbers re: $$ put into the space. They brought in fully mature trees, tons of leveling and concrete work, lots of “design” inside.

The beer was not good. The food was pretty solid for the price. I think the space is weird. Kinda of an odd experience; I had high expectations and it was kinda meh.

As my chances of doing a vertical fade (Fremont Brewery also said no to hosting on prem, despite offering “crackage”), I’ve decided to drink half my Brew X000 berry. I’ll still have 2k (both variants) through 8k for an offline if I can ever find enough people that like bourbon barrel aged barley wine… but I’m going to kill of the other bottles in the name of science and alcoholism, though not necessarily in that order.

Big difference stepping up to the 5k, which had a bit more carbonation left in the bottle - nowhere near as thick and syrupy as the other two. Would note that the 3k was pretty flat.

Stuck in Cordoba after auto mishap with a pothole at highway speeds left me stranded. Found Las Amarguitas Fábrica de Cerveza and cool owner/operator Pablo.

Enjoyed a Pilsner that is a riff off Mexican lager and a not too hoppy Mosaic IPA. Pablo grew up a bowhunter here in Veracruz and has deer tacos on menu. Just a ten meal with housemade potato chips and his IPA.
