Glad I went deep on Bedrock 23’s! I have only had one bottle (Katushas) which was excellent but love to hear good reports on the other wines.
Shut down tight?? I too would have assumed it was at least somewhat approachable at 8
More too tannic and still disjointed. Lots of materials there to integrate. This is a very big wine.
Is that a 2017? Looks like it but i can’t tell 100%.
If so, i agree this has a long life ahead of it…but i can’t keep my hands off of em! Looks like I’ve gone through 3 in the last year, ha!
thanks for … science?
And a buzz
Yes, 2017. The label is all crinkly, I pulled it out of my office fridge that probably has bad humidity controls.
So… is 2030 accurate to revisit? or do you think this needs another 10 from today😅
I think all of our prognostications are guesses, maybe educated guesses, but I would say 2030 would be ideal.
Ten years ought to be enough, right? No, sir, ten years is not enough, not for me anyway. Even after a couple of hours in a decanter, this still was a bit of a monster, big and bold and tannic. Lots of black fruits and pepper and spice. I see notes from folks saying this is ready to drink now, and honestly, I’m not sure they’re drinking the same wine.
Haven’t had this since January 2024, but it was tough as bricks still. It started to soften for me around ~5 hours in the decanter, but not enough, so probably quite awhile to go
Ahhh, good to know my friend! I also glance at this one in the cellar but have zero idea when to open it. Will continue to hold ![]()
I’m pretty sure the style has changed on this wine (Sky), as the last few vintages I’ve had of this has been an electric wine, open for business with just a little decant. I get whole cluster vilification in combination with great power end length on this, but never had the older vintages so don’t have anything to compare it to. Maybe I just have a Yak palate and can’t collate.
The newer vintages I’ve had have been absolutely stellar.
2018 Enz Heritage
I really enjoyed this, although I agree with recent notes saying it’s still a bit young. After some air there’s really nice spicy red fruits and a distinct herbal/savory note that combined with the acidity creates a nice texture to the wine. Great heritage blend but the best is yet to come. Next one in 2 to 3 years.
I really enjoyed the Enz, I drank mine long ago. I havent had a wine I disliked from enz
Maybe pre and post fire
Forgot to mention that a couple of weeks ago I opened a 2018 Bedrock Old Hill and it was in a very weird spot. Showed a lot of alcohol. Had a 2018 Bucklin Old Hill alongside as part of the same tasting, and the Bucklin was in a much better spot. A 2019 Once & Future Old Hill was even better.
I poured a few bottles of the 2020 Monte Rosso Cabernet last weekend for an event. Nose was absent upon opening but double decanted for around 3 hours and it was in great shape for service. No doubt it will be better in a few years but is totally drinkable now with a lot of air. Didn’t get any smoke if folks were worried about that. Felt fresh despite the structure. Lots of open bottles that night so don’t have details, but was on the purple fruit side of things.
