What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?

Family had a 2017 Montecillo Cab and 2019 Papera with home-raised prime steaks. Montecillo was good, but pry needs more time. Was nice, but one note at times. Papera was firing on all cylinders, just an under-rated wine in their lineup.

We had a flawed 2017 Bedrock Heritage that I posted about earlier, Chris is replacing with a Mag since low on standard 2017 Bedrock Heritage. Their customer service is the beyond great!

Also folks should follow their IG account as their regenerative agriculture stuff is very cool and interesting. A lot of ranchers have always followed those principles, but great to see vineyards recognizing the value it has.

*quickly pulls up CT to post about a flawed 2017 bottle of my own

Having a 2014 Weill a Way Syrah with pheasant. Still outstanding and not close to maturity in my mind. Blackberry beneath pipe tobacco with dusty fine tannins. Finish is creamy and long lasting.

Been open a few hours; some pepper and smoked meat creeping in on the action. I should have bought way more. My last bottle and the best one yet by far.

Such a shame this vineyard succumbed to disease, it’s been a treat over the years.

I had a 2015 Weill a Way Syrah last year that was similarly a baby. Tasted like it was a year old. Incredibly delicious but holy mackerel hold hold hold if you want it more mature.

The 2023 OVZ is firing on all cylinders on day 5!! Black fruit, peach skins, with hints of gravel and florals. I could just swirl and sniff all night. Everything was in balance. The only thing wrong was I didn’t save more than a glass for day 5. Cheers to the weekend!

Ha ha ha! That was awesome - I’m still laughing out loud

I had a busy end to the week and forgot about it in the fridge! Usually a bottle never lasts past day 2

Opened this last night. PnP with 30 mins in the glass before I started drinking. It is showing really well right now.

2009 Bedrock ‘O Brother!’ Zinfandel, Bedrock Vineyard. This was excellent! Beautiful and complex blue dusty fruits with a hint of citrus on the finish. Very similar to the Bedrock Vineyard heirloom but the flavor profile comes across a bit more ‘lifted’ and almost airy, which makes sense since this is 100% zin vs. The field blended Heirloom. Drinking at peak right now and should hold at this level for some time. Great stuff - wish I had another bottle! @Morgan_Twain-Peterson @Chris_Cottrell

Coravined a glass of 2022 Dolinsek. Bang on. A year since my last taste, the tannins have calmed down a great deal but the boisterous orange peel, boysenberry, and peach fruit and spice/licorice remain front and center. Doing great right now though it has plenty in the tank.

2018 Esola, rustic and savory with great spice and wonderful balance. Really drinking well right now.

3+ years later this remains an absolutely wonderful wine and one of my favorite Bedrock syrahs. Ready to drink on PnP with the fruit seeming a little darker than before and more olive poking through but the rest of the note stays the same including plenty of life left.

Belloni!

Reminds me a lot of Dolinsek but brighter and a bit more linear.

Is there a ‘signature’ for Belloni? (Haven’t had the vineyard before)

Nah, it’s just Baloney.

Not sure I can really say as my Belloni experience has a nearly 20 vintage gap. Lots has changed since the mid-1990s. That said, the brightness is very familiar from long ago. The fruit is definitely Russian River Zin.

Mike likes to write lip smacking in his tasting notes. I think that would apply to the Belloni.

So it’s not a Bedrock wine, but I really thought I should do the comparison with the Once & Future version of the 2023 Belloni Zinfandel. Opened it up about a half hour ago. It’s even brighter and has some oak spice to go along with the blue/black fruit. Really lively. Very reminiscent of the Ravenswood Belloni that I remember from the 1990s.

At this point, early days, do you have a preference between the 2? Im glad to have both in the cellar.
