On PNP I thought this was ready but then it shut down on me about an hour in. Then it was a teasing-out game to finish writing this note. Luxardo cherries, a bit of cocoa powder and Christmas spices on the nose. The Luxardo cherries continue onto the mid-weight but still noticeably tannic palate, joined in the medium finish by white pepper and what seems like cardamom. Good acid balance. It’s a keeper. Outstanding QPR. Wait another two years and drink for a decade+ after. (93 points)
I’m sure all this talk about @Robert.A.Jr’s calves in the last couple of days subconsciously drew me to this wine. It must be the horse.
It didn’t hurt that it’s what my dinner called for.
In case anyone’s wondering it was a Flannery hanger steak marinated in the Bachan’s Japanese BBQ sauce they sell at Whole Foods and Costco (with some fresh pepper milled in a Mannkitchen Pepper Cannon), and prepared sous vide in the Anova Precision Oven before a final sear on a hot skillet. So basically as Berserker as a meal gets.
I am being taunted to post pics of my calves, Todd will roll eyes!
I think you know I love this producer. A personal fave. I have not tried the 2019 yet, but have a full case of the Cuvee Griffe Marquis sitting in @Jorge_Henriquez’s locker in NYC. Shipping season comes soon!
