Love Michter’s. Big fan of the low entry proof concept that they champion. 10 yr bourbon and toasted rye are among the best whiskies I’ve had this year.
Just grabbed a BiB 6 year soft red wheat this morning. Never seen any Holladay. Not cheap for a 6 year, 100 proof at $59.99. Would like to find a Rickhouse Proof.
Reporting back after getting my hands on a 100pf Saz. Sipps pretty good, obviously better than the low proof. Made a great Manhattan last night with it. Gave some really nice candied fruit notes. I think I probably prefer the spicier, nuttier profile of rittenhouse but I could see a lot of people preferring the sweeter profile the sazarac brings
It’s official, too much Bourbon…Beam shutting down for 2026

I guess they just can’t rip out vines.
This industry is going to mirror the wine industry for the next couple of years. I wonder what BT is doing since they doubled their capacity a couple of years ago.
BT will be mostly immune to industry trends imo. MGP is going to feel the burn I imagine. I think a lot of brands will end up on clearance in the next 12 months
Blantons at MSRP in every store in the country is essentially a clearance sale no?
Taylor is becoming common, as is ER.
They aren’t going to struggle but excesses are coming.
I give them an extra year to burn through their customers. Once we all have it on the shelf and don’t need more we will see what happens.
I find it interesting that MGP who was once thought of as sub now has a bit of a reputation for some quality. Especially in the aged Rye area, folks can find good lots apparently.
The local MGP sourcers are going to hurt/pay because they can’t compete with the stocks of the big boys at their 2-3-4x prices.
No thats just a return to reality hahah. It was never that amazing of a bourbon imo just a big hype train.
I don’t hate all MGP i just hate the way they have taken over whole shelves in stores with 12 different labels from the same distillery. Absolutely some amazing MGP values out there but also some completely overpriced garbage.
A little bit of excess is totally fine as long as prices reflect the stock
To be clear, this is only one of their distileries, not shutting down all production.
Sazerac House in NOLA week before XMAS had ER all over the place for $42 per bottle and also had EHT SMB for $57. I’ve been seening EHT BP offered for retail as well here in Tampa and the the SMB sitting on shelves. I expect we’ll continue to see availability and price softening in 2026.
Has anyone tried MB Roland? Curious what your thoughts are. It’s pre-prohibition style, grain to glass. To me it’s more corn flavor, more robust than the big name bourbons I’m used to that are a little sweet. Their Dark Fired Bourbon is toasted corn and that seems to be what most find amazing but it’s small production.
