The Bourbon Thread

everywhere in Ohio I guess? Not sure how this is relevant to any other state.

Sorry, I meant to respond to Robert. I am looking for something rare in our neck of the woods.
I’m not against ordering online, if anyone else has any suggestions for a nice gift.

Abbie,

So you’re looking for Rye or Bourbon? There seem to be some good options at your local stores.

I haven’t tried the Blue Run but have heard good things.
It looks like they have a WP 10yr private barrel dropping next month.
The Sazerac 18, Thomas Handy & Michters 10 if you can find them are fair to great pricing.
Old Forester Barrel Proof
it really looks like OH has lots of good options!

Awesome! Thanks!

Hey Abbie,
It seems like it’s going to be somewhat of a mess, although there should be lots of actual botttles.
250 bottles per barrel and 100 barrels should yield 25k bottles. At 200 locations there should be a hefty 125 bottles per. Sounds pretty good as there won’t be that kind of crowds, but most announced barrels so far don’t sound great…yet (well the Willett, but $$$). And I bet they’ll be 10-15 truly desirable bottles per?

The chatter is Weller 12 and maybe Full proof will be a part of the release announced at the end.

I’m not sure what the announcement time is on the 9th though. Its my guess is you better be in line before hand though to snag something limited.

Besides the spot I mentioned I have had luck at Dave’s on Lee rd. They used to only sell 3 limited bottles a day to give everyone a chance, which I always thought was cool. A place like Mookies or aurora spirits could be a sleeper though too. I’ll be trying in Northfield though if I can make it.

I’ve never had much luck at Chagrin, I think they keep their stuff behind wraps for their fav customers.

All those that Brent lists after the WP10 are of course great, but those are lottery bottles….less the Michters 10 which was just released last Sat.
One that you might consider (that isn’t unicorn) since he likes Rye is Pikesville. It’s basically the classic Rittenhouse aged for 2 more years and 10 proof higher. Rarely seen in Ohio but I’d think readily orderable.

It’s a frustrating game that I’ve mostly given up on, but can still find pleasure in some moderate nice finds occasionally. I would be very happy with the 4 Roses single barrel barrel proof pick for example.

I’m not very motivated to wait in line, especially when I’m not sure what I’m looking for.
Maybe I’ll check in with you next week to see what the really special bottles are.

We go through lots of Rittenhouse for cocktails, so the Pikesville idea is a good one.

I may go somewhere a little out of the way to pick something up. I think Pat O’brien’s is a popular spot.
We’ll see how this week plays out. Thanks for the info.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a virtual tasting for charity next week for bourbon?

Just a heads up…If anyone has a grand reserve # from total wine you might want to check the status of Weller at your local store. I see people posting some kind of unannounced drop of Weller full proof.
I’m not really sure fully what’s going on as we don’t have them here.

It was certainly a surprise in Fresno… email just said Blanton’s but got a text from a friend they had Wellers and more. Missed out on the Stagg Jr and Russell Rickhouse… got a Weller Full Proof, Weller 12 and Knob Creek 18

Well that’s a fine day! I felt good about pulling a Weller single barrel. Had a 10yr Willett Rye in my hand but just couldn’t pull the card out @$390. Probably should have though.

and got an email they are doing it again on Saturday with a few less options

Any thoughts on EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel? I grabbed one today for like $40 along with a Blanton and an Eagle Rare 10 barrel selection.

Are you sure it’s single barrel? The small batch runs about $40 but the single barrel is more. I’ve had two different single barrel bottles, one was amazing and one was just ok so you’ll have to let us know what you found

Oh it was $80. The Eagle Rare was $40.

Yeah good find at that price, they’re hard to come by!

That’s a hell of a find! …but it’s a single barrel! :rainbow:

I’ll take my chances

The one I REALLY want to find is the Barrel Proof. It’s easier to find Michters 10 year bottles (my favorite, and I find one a year) than it is to find an EHTBP in the wild :frowning:

OHLQ announced this bonus release at 3pm today via email.
We called our local store, and they said that they were giving out numbers and would go in order of numbers at 6pm. They had 84 bottles total. My husband and I got #'s 38 and 39. Only one bottle per transaction.
We ended up with the below bottles. They also still had Weller 12 and Wild Turkey Generations (over $400) when we got to the counter. There were a bunch of people that showed up and in line not realizing that numbers had been given out…

We got the last Stagg.
The Wellers were in abundance, but there were only a few of each of the others.
