The Bourbon Thread

GTS to go with that Bday?

Yup. Stagg was $99.99 and the Bday was 149.99. A couple of these are ABC picks for which the Alabama guys are famous. The blantons, buffalo trace, Clyde May, Weller are all picks. I screwed up and missed the Eagle rare store pick. Best $34.99 bourbon there is in my opinion.

Great haul

My son was a big help picking backup items for me. And the parking lot would have triggered all kinds of nightmares for Victor. Not a sedan in sight.

Dang! That’s a great haul right there. Well done.

As a UTK grad and native TN, I’m not allowed in Alabama, but I snuck across the line when I was in Columbus, Georgia a few months ago.

You beat Alabama this year which isn’t the worst thing. One of my good friends at work is about as big a fan as you will meet. Has a houseboat that he works from during the season.

During football season we always stay in Columbus (technically I guess Phenix City), but on the river. Always take my morning walks across the bridge and through all the old converted mills.
When I was in college, we went to the base to buy kegs since Lee county didn’t allow draft beer. Made extra money throwing keg parties.

Scooped up some of the new Benchmark offerings that aren’t readily available in West. For those out there unfamiliar Benchmark is basically 4-5 year old Buffalo Trace that is 7-8 years. Grabbed a Single Barrel, BIB, and Full Proof, Top Floor and Small Batch also exist.

BIB is excellent. Report back on rest.

Picked up a Michter’s toasted Sour Mash today. Looking forward to trying one, as it’s been super-difficult to find. Breaking Bourbon crapped all over it in their review, but I still couldn’t say no

Nice find. I’ve been looking but haven’t come across one other than secondary. Might have to trade. I really liked the last release. Low proof but still full of flavor.

I have never had anything from Michter’s that was less than good.

On that we completely agree. A bartender I trust says her favorite of their standard line is the American Whiskey. Strange they have done a barrel strength or toasted barrel of that one (at least that I’ve seen).

2006 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series Canoe Ridge

Drank this bottle a couple of weeks ago. A very fun wine to drink and a good reminder to buy more wine from this winery. Still had some tannins and acid present, but not much, so if you have any in your cellar (this vintage), drink soon. Good balance of fruit and earthy notes. Did not have to dig to smell it either. The finish lingered a bit and did not drop off a cliff.

Did you chase it with Bourbon?

How’d that happen? LOL

That’s a hell of a haul Milton.

I didn’t realize the STRONG relationship between bourbon and pickup trucks in pic #2. I don’t think there is any other type of vehicle there

It does make a heck of an Old Fashioned!

Anyone take you up on your offer? I’d gladly pay that. I don’t drink much bourbon but I liked the pour I had recently.

Not really. One local who I know contacted me, and I offered to share some. Contacted him recently l but he hasn’t checked in lately.

Are you in the Bay Area? I’d be happy to share.

I appreciate the offer but I’m up in Oregon. Good idea on the old fashioned! A Manhattan would be really nice too

I am a bit surprised nobody has posted this yet. Just saw this in the NY Post. It mentions that they also sell wine, but nothing about Ponsot, Rudy, etc.
