I have a couple bottles of Whistle Pig bourbon headed my way , 6 yr high corn, will report back
when I open one.
Update:I don’t know the mashbill on this but there is a healthy dose of rye in it.First impression on the nose is a healthy dose of alcohol that thankfully doesn’t show itself on the palate.I think just the right amount of sweetness and spice, with a touch of grain showing on the finish.I had 2 samples and the second was smooth as silk. For $50 I will buy again.
For those interested Garrison Texas Cowboy bourbon (67%) just hit local stores in Seattle area. Total has it for $300. Price is a bit steep, but it’s a unique and powerful bourbon.
My son’s thrift sale find today. Tax seal was cracked, cork crumbly so he opened and strained the cork bits out.
His tasting note: It’s delicious. Tastes like browned butter, caramel corn, and a little funky vanilla sauternes. He’s bringing it home to have at Christmas.
Well, finally got the bottle and broke into it. Have to say, it’s not really for me. Far sweeter and more caramel than a “lesser” bourbon. I’ve had two or three pours, and am not really enjoying it. If someone local wants the rest of the bottle, you’re welcome to it for what I paid.
Yeah, I keep trying to nail down what gives it the sweetness. Toasted coconut is definitely in there. It’s not maple syrup, but leans in that direction. Might be a lot better in a cocktail, but I assume it’s supposed to be drunk neat.
We had our Bourbon allocated lottery today and here is the haul. If you didn’t win a lottery spot the line started on Thursday. Folks parked their campers in the parking lot. Fortunately I won a lottery spot (#19)
