Tempting wine purchases you’ve passed on—give others a shot

It’s 10.25% sales tax + 6% liquor tax. It is the most expensive, or at least highest tax, city in Illinois to buy wine.

wow…

Most of these were at Chicago LV as well. Some still as of Saturday: W S, Futo, plus Staglin Estate Chard.

wow. you just made me feel so much better here in the SW burbs.

Solano Cellars has some recent vintages of Gonon for $96-$105 ea.

Too bad the don’t ship to my state.

Astor Wines in New York is offering 20% off all still French wines today.

right after they jacked the prices… there used to be some good DRC prices with the 20% off, not anymore. I kinda regret not buying 19 GE and RSV for 1800 and 2k respectively.

On the other end of the spectrum with Beaujolais, they have the regular 2023 Domaine Coudert Clos de la Roilette Fleurie for less than $18, which seems reasonable (not the Cuvée Tardive or La Griffe du Marquis).

That’s a great wine, one of the few where I am often just as happy with the regular over a higher level Cuvée. I love its freshness.

Great stuff. Love that 2019. I think those wines may be pre-arrival/pre-order, so may want to check (e.g. you can add an unlimited amount to the check out, so not sure what actual inventory is).

Home of the Temperance movement…

Grandvinwinemerchants is going out of business; they have a decent sale on some stuff, like 2011 Yquem for 319, and there are a few other deals like 2015 Bertheau Bonnes Mares for 360.

Hmm, don’t see anything on their website and didn’t get an email about it?

It’s the “close out sale” people in wa say they’ll be taking orders only for next 5-7 days. Prices may drop further.

Per the March 4th email copied below, it reads that they are in the process of selling off their US business interests.

any idea what the situation is with their current inventory; is shipping now handled through bordeaux wine locators if one was to place an order?

I have purchased twice during their sale, and one of their associates reached out to schedule shipping both times.

I’ve been checking in periodically. They had an initial tranche of major price drops, then another more modest drop several weeks back. But have been holding at those levels since then.

I found something of interest in each of the first two phases. Though may go for more if they are more aggressive in the final week. Most of what is left is at higher price points . . . . I might be persuaded if those are hitting 40% to 50% discounts.

For Chicago based people, the Binny’s in Geneva has Ridge Geyserville 2019 mags at End of Bin pricing ($59.97) along with a handful of various Bordeaux at End of Bin pricing. I picked up Alter Ego for $39.97 and a couple others. Might be worth checking out your local Binnys

Winebid has this “buy it now” for $42 so no commission. I bought a few. Never had it, but looks solid! :clinking_glasses:
