Tempting wine purchases you’ve passed on—give others a shot

I made one

Cool. Then we’ll see which thread gets the most traction.

I was a little bummed with finding.wine. I ordered a couple bottles of '14 and '16 and what showed up was all '16. I called and they said they had an inventory software problem so they just shipped all '16s when they ran out of '14s since they were the same wine and the same price. He did offer a refund if I wanted to ship them back. Still a great price but would have preferred 2014 (or at least a heads up before shipping).

Yeah that’s annoying, they probably should have contacted you before shipping out the wine.

We ordered 2017 Lafon Porusots off the list and they present the 2020 without saying anything. Only when we inquire do they let us know they are out of the 2017 and haven’t updated the list.

I definitely don’t like when somebody swaps vintages and just hopes you won’t notice. They should always be upfront immediately.

I can never understand how a serious wine store could ever just silently do vintage substitutions. The kind of store that stocks d’Yquem, do they think people just won’t care?

Sounds like La Clarine Farm is closing. Always enjoyed the wines but haven’t had one in a long time. Existing bottles marked down.

“This is it - we are closing up the shop. This is the last chance to buy directly from us, and to get the last of our available bottled wines. We’ve marked everything in our cellar down 20%! After this, there will be no more.

All orders will be shipped asap. Please note that shipments to the East side of the USA will need to be placed by December 16 to have any chance of an arrival before Christmas. You West Coasters have a day or two more.

We’d like to extend a big (make that huge!) thank-you to everyone who has patronized our little winery, distributed our wines around the world, poured our wines in your restaurants and bars, sold our bottles in your shops, and written and spoken about our little adventure over the last 20 years - we honestly could not have done it without you and are humbled by your support.

All our best,
Hank, Caro, Dogs, Cats, and Goats.”

Passed on a bottle of 1998(my birth year) Pontet Canet yesterday for $250. from a private cellar i trust. It actually think it would be closer to $175 with the discount I get.

Starting to feel like i missed out…

got 3 offers for 2019 Coche Dury Bourgogne today.
BBR offer my allocation of 1 bottle $500.00 which was a joke
Leon and Sons 2019 Coche Bourgogne $350.00
Somewhere in northern FL 2019 Coche Bourgogne $299.00
didn’t buy any

I saw that FL offer, first email I’ve ever received from that retailer, Wine World Vin Connect. They had some decent Coche pricing but I would want to hear from folks who know and trust them before buying. Even the 2019s were listed as pre-arrival.

I think that’s the shop @HoosJustinG was working with before.

I have bought from them a few times.

Coche prices have been coming down some but still you mostly see around

BB $275
Meursault $875
Lieu Dit $1150+
1er $1550+
CC $4500

Anything significantly lower than that I’m usually a buyer.

That’s correct. As far as whether or not it’s a legitimate company, it absolutely is. You won’t get scammed. I’m just no longer involved there and can’t really speak to their current buying strategy, pricing, or pre-arrival timelines.

What I can say is that one of my frustrations — and a big reason we ultimately split up — is that, in my view, their stores and staff are really built around being a volume retailer of more mass market wines. There were structural elements (order visibility, wine storage, order fulfillment, customer touch points, etc.) that I felt needed to move in a different direction to better serve fine-wine collectors, and it ended up feeling like a square peg/round hole situation.

They do what they do well. It just wasn’t the right platform for the kind of program I wanted to build.

As for me, I’ve landed somewhere else and I’m excited to share where very soon (rhymes with “snatchers”).

There are still a couple bottles of 2019 first growths at fine wine and good spirits for low prices; I believe ~400 for 2019 Mouton in the philly area and ~340 for 2019 Haut Brion, more in the central part of the state.

Yeah I tried to grab some of these, unfortunately you only have 3 days to pick up your order :frowning: Great deals though
