Tempting wine purchases you’ve passed on—give others a shot

They say that, but I’ve picked up orders two weeks later without any issue…

I have had the people from my store call me to ask me when I was going to pick things up; if you tell them it’ll be a few more days they’re probably fine with it.

Do you know if they ship out of state? I do have relatives in PA I could ship to but would rather they ship to me in MD

They do not. Those bottles I’m referencing can only be picked up in the specific stores they’re at, also. I did get one of them during their cyber Monday sale which was a good deal, 2019 Haut Brion for $300.

@H_Wallace_Jr is offering 2 INSANELY GOOD holiday offers: $360 for a mixed case (normally $635) and $222 for a half case (normally $335) – shipping included.

These are insanely good wines – I posted fellow berserker reviews below.

If you’ve ever been curious or are already a fan, now is the time to get in on the action.

As everyone knows, the near future for the industry is pretty grim, and many excellent projects will not survive. Despite the rave reviews from myself and others, EDWCY is not immune to this – I know it’s been a challenging year for Hardy as well. If there is ONE project in the US that I want to survive, it’s Hardy’s. His wines are singular. Delicious, life-affirming, soulful, and worthy of being world-renowned.

Do yourself a favor – If your palate aligns with any of the Berserkers quoted here, take a flyer on a pack:

Reviews on the wines in this pack:
2022 Partial Eclipse
@Keith_Levenberg: This is the biggest bouncing ball of Happy Happy Joy Joy from Hardy since the original Dirty & Rowdy Especial. I think it is misnamed, though, because eclipses are kind of somber and mysterious events while this is about as somber and mysterious as a Tickle-Me Elmo. Way more sun than moon, too. It has the most pure and vivid fruit it is possible for a wine to have without reversing the forces of entropy and reverting to a bunch of perfectly spherical, plump, shiny purple grapes. That is the feeling it has: rounded, edgeless, plump, a polished orb of fruit at perfect ripeness, picked at the absolute right millisecond that makes it unabashedly fruity without any goop or candied flavors and an easy-drinking middleweight without any hint of edginess or angularity. It’s one of the most fruit-forward wines I’ve had from either EWCY or D&R but when the fruit is this pretty and dialed into the Goldilocks zone, that is all you need.

2021 Family Band
@JohnMag : 1 hr decant. Served in Zalto glasses. Electric bouquet of raspberries, anise and, with even more air, sea brine. Palate is even more energetic than the nose, with red berries supplemented by rose water lokum, cinnamon, a touch of clove and lemon meringue. The overall package is an absolute delight, with spandrels and curlicues of tastes unfolding constantly. Very easy to like, but also intriguing and sophisticated.
Score: 95. Relative to expectations: +++

2022 Innervisions II
@David_Bu3ker: Be forewarned, this wine is painfully young. When I first opened it there was an intense grapiness. I took a small pour, and then corked it up for the night. That was 24 hours ago, and tonight we have liftoff. It’s still a young, intense wine, but now it’s wine and not hypercharged grape juice. There’s structure, delicate lines of complexity poking their way through the rich fabric, and a purple flower top note that’s the distilled essence of the heart-shaped herb. Take a sip and visit the ancestors on a separate plane of existence. Seriously though - give this one some time. It’s still expanding from its big bang.

2023 Brosseau Syrah
@Shan_A : 2023 Brosseau is an excellent Syrah to have in the cellar. A “low” 12.8% alcohol, but you get full Syrah ripeness and intensity - it’s not an underripe/thin wine at all despite being so low alcohol. Power without weight. Doesn’t have the funk or complexity of a Cote Rotie, but certainly a wine that will run with equally priced CdP / St. Joseph. I’m certain this will age for 5-10 years, soften up even further. Given these are the $50 wines in the stable, I’m certainly curious what the $100 wines punch at.

2022 Indie Bookstore Light Red
@JohnMag: Splash decant +10 minutes and that was illuminating. Initially this had a very powerful licorice jellybean, raspberry, unplaceable floral scent combination. With an hour of air time this started to develop a wild sequence of smells and tastes. First, an exhilarating sort of shoe polish VA-type scent — but it wasn’t VA, because it wasn’t there initially, and it wasn’t a flaw, it sort of made sense here. Then, an emerging bruised apple oxidative note, a brilliant scent of a hot summer sidewalk smashed by rain in an afternoon thunderstorm, wet celery stalks.
I am glad I didn’t give this the usual 45-60 minute decant in order to maximize its “peak” — this was a wild rollercoaster ride to the resolution. Unpredictable, unique, untamed. The ride to the top is as much fun as the top itself. Brilliant.
Score: 93. Relative to expectations: in its own alternative reality, +++ . Whatever planet this is from, book me there. (93 points)

2023 Brosseau Chardonnay
@Dennis_Atick on the 21: Very compacted right now. Decant a bit. Rocks and minerals nose. Clean. Springy. Tart, acid-driven apples and tart citrus. The little dose of Chenin gives the a rounded, honey-density that wraps the mid-palate. Terrific weight. Would love to see in a couple years if I can keep my hands off.

2023 Evangelho Carignane Old Vines
@AD_Northup : Pulled this not realizing it was my last bottle. Pop and pour but drank slowly. Beautiful ripe sappy red and purple fruits. Dense, tense, wonderful finish. Banger of a wine.

2022 Ancient Groove
@Daniel_S : Nose of candied raspberries, ripe strawberries, cinnamon, clove, honey, a touch of pine needles, and a touch of lemon. Medium high crunchy acidity with a ton of energy. Palate of tart raspberries supported by red fruits, light spices, and hints of citrus. Assertive tannins that are firm - yet they really feel like they want to be softer. Lengthy multi-stage finish that starts off with red fruits then the acidity kicks in bringing a wave of light minerals. It then starts to linger with a darker minerals, dark fruit skins, a touch bitter herbs, a hint of peppercorn, and a bit of violet. At the very end of the finish - earl gray tea. (93 points)

2022 AGRADEZCO
Me: This is perhaps the most straightforward, classically CA zin-blend profiled wine that Hardy has made, which isn’t a bad thing! Don’t get me wrong, there’s still some of the classic Hardy joy and lift to the profile, but it’s backgrounded in a way that I’m not sure I could call this an EDWCY wine blind, whereas I’m quite confident with most of the reds. But what a wine. So dialed in - tart and juicy red fruit - pomegranate, hibiscus and bramble berry - pulled down to earth (or sea) by an iodine flecked sea-funk. Medium bodied (ie more than many of Hardy’s wines, superfine tannins, and a quiet finish that reverberates. (94 points)

The tone of my review of Family Band is pretty restrained compared to how much it absolutely blew me away.
An EWCY! Wine was my WoTY in 2024 and Family Band is on the short list for 2025. Yes, they are that good.

I’ve been buying a lot of wine lately and wanted to slow it down a bit, but when I saw this offer it was a no brainer to jump in for a case. Super excited to taste a little more of the spectrum of what they have to offer!

Shipping included is robbery. $360 - - $60 (box + shipping) = $300. That’s $25 per bottle. Similar math for the library offer, maybe $30 a bottle. FWIW my wife liked the 2023 Evangelho more than the 2023 Syrah.

I say go with the Library sixer. Has 2x of “one of our favorite red blends of all time.” Has the 2023 Evangelho. A 94 Vinous point Brosseau low alcohol Syrah. Seems like a good way to get a sense of their red style and these different types of blends/grapes.

Separately - and notably - I saw respected WB’ers buying the $100 Marianna Cab and Cab Francs when they were offered. I know some of those used to be old world drinkers 10 years ago when pricing was lower. Seemed like a massive endorsement to the house style & QPR.

Yes those higher priced offerings from Mariana’s vineyard are incredible! If I had to describe them in one word it would be Electric :zap:
The style is so vibrant and complex. If I rank my cellar based on wines I’m most excited to open, those are near the top.

Which ones did you get? And how do you think about aging profile for them. For 2023 California vintage, they seem like a good bet at the $100/per (in line with William Mary, Beta, etc.)

I ended up with 3 x Merlot, 3 x Cabernet Franc and 1 x Cabernet Sauvignon. I probably did a disservice to the cab sauv by only grabbing 1, but there’s just a lot of great cab sauv out there and I had to draw the line somewhere lol. The biggest surprise of the 3 was the Merlot. Thinking back to it, if I had called it blind I probably would have said Cab franc. It had some serious vibrancy and complexity that I’ve never experienced in a Merlot. The Cab Franc is receiving some high praise and rightfully so, and the Cab Sauv is also vibrant and delicious. I’m excited to line that up with some similar stylistic bottles.
They are all excellent now and will age incredibly.

I think they will be very long-lived wines. These are structured wines, but with super refined tannins, almost ethereal, with crunchy red fruit. The Beta wines have more kinship to the EDWCY Mariana’s bdx wines than to classic napa cab in both fruit profile and structure. The 2022 M-CF reminds me of the '21 Lafleur. They need plenty of air if you’re going to drink them young.

Thank you, Vince. For most small CA producers, 2025 has been more challenging than anything we have ever experienced / imagined. Reading the TN’s below is a reminder to Kate and me that what we do lands with people in a meaningful way.

Thank you, John.

Thank you!

Thank you. This is a crazy deal and we are so happy people have jumped on it. It feels great as both a thank you to existing customers and a low risk / high reward way to bring new folks in.

Thank you. The 23 Merlot is bonkers. It is so bright and yet so layered and long.

Thank you. My visits to Lafleur were the inspiration for the 22 M-CF.

I’m not sure if it shows in bottle, the 23 Merlot is definitely inspired by visits to VCC.

Collectible fine wine’s holiday sale is usually one of the best sales of the year. It’s a progressive starting at 20% today and going to 40% by the 26th. 93 Rousseau Chambertin and mag of 2000 CSJ would be good values at the 40%.
