How do people feel about blind vs. not? I generally prefer blind but open to either.
Phil, have you had their set menus before? A set menu may be easiest given party size and better for pairing with the different wines, but please advise.
I have not had their set menus before, so I can’t speak as to that. I can get him to give me an idea if you all want of what it could look like. I think we’d do a sparkling/white/red/dessert (if wanted) flight as we progress, but that’s just me. Whatever works for the group as I honestly don’t really have a preference.
I got a discouraging reply from La Cigale, they won’t host any special event until mid-May, we are welcome to make a regular dinner reservation and bring our own wine only on weekdays and the corkage fee is $40.
I’m also good with the 12th or 13th for Ft Lauderdale but I prefer the 13th, thank you @P_Bennett for arranging Union Kitchen, looks really good!
Ditto!
Blind is a lot of fun and for some reason, I don’t participate in many blind tastings, this could be a good opportunity to start correcting that.
Ouch re La Cigalle, but that’s Delray these days. I’ll still check with Amar.
I used to belong to a pro tasting group and I got really good at blind tasting. These days I might miss red vs. white.
My pleasure! So, I’ll give it until after the holiday weekend so others can chime in, but it seems that we’re good for 2/13? And please everyone let me know about the set menu or not. We also need to settle on a theme or what we are going to do with the wines. Blind is totally fine with me - I would just say that if we can sign up for wines (red/white/etc) beforehand just so we aren’t just downing red wines all night, that would be great.

I’m good with the 12th but would likely prefer the 13th (I guess I think Thursday is a better drinking day!!). As for the theme, I am a purist…Italian food goes so well with great Italian wine! But Burgundy doesn’t suck either so I suggest a smorgasbord. The only rule is that the bottle should be something worthy of this sort of group of winos. That could mean the bottle is a rare/unique one, from a great producer, a great vintage, has some age, of significant value, etc.
Let’s make this happen!!

Agree
If we want to stick with Italian, I can bring a bottle or two of Burgundy Rosé as an aperitif so that HRH and I get our sips of Burg.
I am fine either way.
We are cool with set menu (no tree nuts or peanuts for HRH), but are also fine if the restaurant wants to do regular menu.
It’s very generous of them to do this for us and waive corkage; I’ll bring extra cash.
Roberto is a great guy and you all are going to love this place! I’ve been going since they’ve been open so I am sure he’s doing this as a favor to me. And he knows we’ll take care of them either way, so no problems there. I’m going to list out who it looks like is coming below so I have a head count. We can hash out what wines, etc. later. I’ll also talk to him about a la carte or a set menu and we can sort that out as well.
