Retailer Check: Vint Marketplace (Washington, D.C.)

To follow up on my issues with the recent orders I’ve had with Vint.

My order of 6 cases and change have been received - this order was requested in March via the Reserves-Hub which was subsequently held for weather (Arizona) and had to finally be released via email in November.

My order of 10 cases was requested via Reserves-Hub in December, with shipping charges being paid 12/26. They noted a ship out date of 12/30, but my storage facility has not noted any incoming shipments yet.

My last order of 3 cases post-Tariffs has had the tariffs paid in December, and I am still waiting on them to give me a ship date. Shipping charges were paid along with the tariff charges.

Overall, I am still receiving the wine little by little, but with quite poor/absent communication (average wait of 3-5 days between email exchanges) and a non-intuitive way to receive the wine via their website assuming you haven’t taken delivery from this retailer before. Night and day difference between this retailer right now versus 2 years ago.

Updating now that my last response with the team, despite numerous attempts from my end, is now 3 weeks.

My order was supposedly shipped 12/30 with no tracking number and has still not been received. I’ve received no response on my inquiries regarding status of shipment as I was worried the wine may have been lost in transit, but at this point I don’t even know if they even shipped the wine.

I am absolutely starting to get worried that there is a non zero chance that my wines may not come. I also cannot really chargeback as some of these wines were pre arrival orders from over a year ago. Has anyone had any recent communication or successful shipments from Vint in the past 1-2 weeks?

Hey Michael - I have also reached out many times without a response at this point. Back in September, I got a response pretty quickly and they said they’d be transferring my wines located in the U.S. to my Uovo Storage account. They never did, and I have tried a number of times since mid-December to get in contact with them.

I’d call your credit card company and speak to a higher up before I came to that conclusion. Plenty of people on this board have had success getting stuff like that refunded.

Also my impression is that if other people have filed claims against the same place, your cc company will be up to speed already. (At least it was like that for Premier Cru.)

Will do! I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that (much rather receive the wine I ordered), but I’m about to pull the trigger by next week if there’s no new responses. I randomly got a small refund today from Vint, of course with no indication of what they are refunding, but I’ll take it I guess!

I’d do it now. You can always “cancel” the chargeback request if it prompts action.

You could tell Vint you’ve done so, and you’d prefer to have the wines but you need to protect yourself.

I requested refunds on 2 futures orders on Jan 9 and on jan 19 I received email notification it was processed (less shipping insurance charge, but whatever). Cc shows refund processed. Good luck

I just emailed Grace, alerted her to this forum thread, told her that lots of people are very nervous. Asked if there is anything I should be worried about, are my 12 bottles safe and capsule to ship any time, etc. we’ll see what she comes back with.

I’ll add in here that I’m waiting on a dozen bottles which are ‘in stock’ to ship. Reached out over the course of a month several times but have not received a response.

Continuing the discussion from Retailer Check: Vint Marketplace (Washington, D.C.):

Jason - I don’t know if your bottles were in stock when you ordered, or have arrived based on a pre-arrival order. However when I requested Vint ship my bottles that arrived based on a pre-arrival, below is the response I received from Grace. I used option 1 and it seemed to progress the process - they send you an invoice for shipping fees and tariff if applicable, which you need to pay before they will ship. It doesn’t seem Option 2 is working for you. Good luck

We’re reaching out to let you know that your order is currently stored with us. During checkout, you selected:
“Send to Storage – Vint will store your items for up to 90 days free while you wait to consolidate additional items. Shipping payment due at time of shipment.”

I just bailed out and did chargebacks for the stuff I ordered from them in pre-arrival. Grace will not respond to emails and the stuff I’m reading recently on this thread is getting a little scary.

This thread brings back some bad memories for me.

I lucked out. Had almost a case of wine there and 2 bottles still pre-arrival which were already 9 months late. I think I worked with Grace - she offered to credit me for the 2 bottles. Seeing this thread, I jumped on the credit and had my other bottles delivered. But this was a few months ago, sounds like it has gone downhill since.

Just received.

I am writing to share some significant news regarding the future of Vint Marketplace.

After 3 years of serving our community of wine enthusiasts, Vint Marketplace will be ceasing operations, and we have concluded an asset sale agreement with Wine Scout. While this marks the end of our chapter as an independent company, we are pleased to have found a partner who shares our passion for quality and service.

What does this mean for you?

Firstly, I want to reassure you that your wines are secure and that this sale will not have any impact on your ownership of wines that you have purchased through Vint Marketplace.

I know that you have outstanding wines that you have ordered from us, that you are awaiting delivery for. These wines are physically present in the USA and we are in the process of moving them from storage with our logistics partner GLS to Wine Scout’s temperature controlled warehouse. Your wines have been staged for collection by GLS and trucking is being arranged for the week commencing 26th of January. We will be transferring your wines using temperature controlled trucks and expect that your wines will be received and processed ready for onward shipping to you from Wine Scout’s warehouse by the 3rd week of February.

We have arranged for one of Wine Scout’s private client managers (they call them Wine Scouts) to personally handle your account, and work with you to arrange delivery of your wine to a location of your choice.

Your Scout will be reaching out to you directly to introduce themself and to outline the options available to you to receive your wines.

The details:

  • Deliveries: You will be contacted directly by your assigned Wine Scout to arrange for delivery of your outstanding wines. Wine Scout will be honoring all prepaid shipping.

  • Support: You can expect to be contacted individually by a Wine Scout. They will reach out to you via email and phone using the details you have shared with us.

  • En-Primeur / Bordeaux Futures Vintage 2023 / 2024: Vint Marketplace will not be able to fulfill orders for these wines which remain at a pre-release stage in Chateaux in France. We are in the process of cancelling these orders, and will be contacting impacted customers individually to confirm refunds for these orders. We are sorry we will not be able to fulfill these orders for you. For customers who remain interested in acquiring 2023 Bordeaux vintage Futures please reach out to Wine Scout to inquire about availability as they have access to many of the wines we have offered in the past.

Shocking

I’m now even happier that my only outstanding order reportedly was delivered last week.

I guess it makes sense to end up at this point after all the ups and downs of the last couple months. Hopefully everyone gets their orders or refunds. Crazy

Bound to happen with as many negative experiences that have been shared here, including mine. Prime use case on how NOT to treat your customers if you want to run an online marketplace. Best of luck to all who have outstanding orders - my credit card refunded my funds.
