Official Costco Thread

Thanks for posting about the Testamata CT reviews. I’ve got the 2020’s and really liked it. Was looking at getting the 21’s but now I won’t after a quick look CT.

Seems to be a polarizing wine/vintage. But CT90.9 overall is a pass? Median score is a CT92. One would think it is in sort of a shut-down phase. Whether or not you believe in that is another question. I too enjoyed the '20 (CT91.2 btw)

A note on why you are seeing it cheap at California Costco: Bibi Graetz changed importer and this is likely existing inventory held in California being cleared out. It is a wine that has always been on discount sites though, because I agree it’s not a $100 wine. $30 though?

At $30, I might risk what feels like a probable money flush. If I were to buy one, it would be to open right away to see if I want to go back for a lot more. If it’s not showing well right now, then I believe I already have my answer. But it’s $40 at my store, so I guess that $10 is a deal-breaker for me, especially seeing as how it would likely serve no purpose besides satisfying my curiosity. And I don’t need to be doing that as I continue to be engaged in the most successful drawback on wine purchasing I’ve ever accomplished.

Totally get it in your case. Though I disagree with your saying that the reviews are consistently poor. As evidenced by the actual scores themselves.

My response in @John_Davila’s case: he liked the '20, the citic reviews are similar and pretty solid (if you give those weight), and the CT scores seem to be also in-line.

FWIW, I did buy six '21s @ $30 via a kind WBer who shipped them to me, but have yet to open one. Given the recent CT scores, I will wait. Though I was probably going to wait anyway, since I thought the '20 I opened last year could have benefitted from more time as well.

load up the Purlieu! lucky you!

Testamatta is $30 at my location. If this is a distributor dump, that is less concerning than having no idea why it’s being offloaded. I might take a chance at $30 as a gamble, but like I noted up thread, no way I’m buying a bunch blind given the CT notes. It’s not the scores that concern me, it’s the notes themselves.

they moved importers from Folio to Massanois, my guess is they dumped all the stateside inventory assuming Massanois wasn’t in position to buy it all

Correct that it did not move. Not idea on the reason.

Agreed. But they all seem to be recent. Weird dropoff.

Some locations are doing the price chopping on Testamatta via an instant rebate… which means the actual price doesn’t show up correctly on the warehouse inventory app. If you know the item number you can call in and get the actual price at the warehouse but that’s too much work for what might only be an opportunistic Singleton purchase.

That Bouscasse is a case buy for BBQs.

Ummmm, yeah you did! I’d open one immediately and be prepared to go right on back for the cleanout.

Yeah it’s $59 at my Costco which is a decent deal and I strongly considered picking up. Would’ve bought a case at $40

Damn, one of my faves. Would happily grab a case.

Ha ha! Great minds my friend! It’s REALLY nice. Super young of course, but beautifully perfumed red and blue fruits with a lovely streak of acidity through the long, tannic finish. This is going to be a stunner in 10 to 15 years…although I’m loving it now.

You nailed it…I’ll legit be heading back tomorrow for more

Jeez! The lowest price near me in NC from any retailer is $66.99!

A wine I’ve been poking around for since they landed, hoping for that kind of price, lol.

Thank you, Rich. My plan is to get there tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
