I was at 1001 Irvine Hangars yesterday, and it was the weakest lineup of wines I’ve ever seen there. Nothing even worth mentioning. Even the few wines which were mildly interesting weren’t at prices that were motivating.
With current trends it is going to be difficult for BevAlc to keep their share of warehouse and not get reduced for other items.
2021 LLC and 2021 Palmer marked down further to $99.97 and $149.97, respectively, in Chicagoland.
Faugeres 2019 at 29.97 at Fremont CA Costco (and few other places in the bay area)
Same in the capital region, although not tagged correctly at 471. Rings up at the death star price though.
I’m pretty sure $30 is what I paid for the 2000 on indent a lifetime ago.
The 2019 Faugeres is $30 on WTSO.
Here’s a question that will probably elicit more humorous responses than real advice, but here goes…
Anyone familiar with the usual wine selection at the Juneau, Alaska? Wife and I are considering a trip there, so of course, wine options are top of mind.
In some of the other Costco connoisseur chatboards people occasionally post pictures from the Alaska warehouses, mostly lamenting the prices. But there was wacky outdoors stuff too (Bear spray anyone?) which would not be on the mainland. Hopefully they would at least have some of the Treasury or Constellation product lineup there though.

Costco in Kalispell, MT sells bear spray. ![]()
Astonishingly, I’ve been to that warehouse. First place I tried the (now ubiquitous, yet tasteless) Rana pasta dinners! Once upon a time they would sell Big Mountain ski lift tickets that had the magical property of being returnable if unused, which is extremely rare in the snow sports world. I remember getting some CSJ Indian Wells Chard there too, a satisfactory and sound commercial mega production wine. Perhaps there will be a good supply of WA wines up in Alaska?
I’ve scored a fair amount of Cristal in BozAngeles at great prices (plus no tax.). Boy, I got some strange looks when I only had a few items at checkout but it rang up over 4 digits!
Fingers crossed.
Kalispell had an okay wine selection when I was there in 2019. Nothing too special… the usual Duckhorn, but also things we don’t see in TX too often; Washington stuff in particular. We picked up Columbia Crest Walter Clore reserve, both 2012 and 2013.
There was also a local shop that had a nice selection. I picked up a 2012 Mayacamas Cab there that was the best of the trip.
You can check warehouse inventory on the Costco app - “wine” will get a pretty good list, search by varietal or say “Bordeaux” will pick up more.
Thanks for that reminder. I had forgotten that trick. Just checked and it looks like they have a couple of options in stock at the moment.
Too funny - my wife is literally in Junau
today doing a whale warching trip. Sorry no feedback on the costco
Awesome!!
Yesterday at Skypark/Lomita.
The reviews on the 2021 Testamatta are so bad I put the bottle in my hand back in the bin. I did decide to give the 12 yo Brunello for $20 a shot, and also the Portuguese white. Selection was even worse than it normally is. Only Dom was in the special bottles case. Makes me wonder if they’re clearing out inventory for an upcoming drop of new stuff?
There is similar selection at my local Costco in Goleta. After a run of interesting French and Italian reds, it’s back to more basic selections.
I too have been tempted by the Testamatta, but the bad reviews in CT have also led me to leave it out of my cart. It doesn’t seem to be a case of Caymus drinkers not getting it, and the early positive reviews juxtaposed with the run a poor reviews makes me suspicious there’s a batch of this that was damaged in transit or storage.
Yeah, those Testamatta reviews are consistently poor, and in the same way. At best, the wine is very shut-down right now, and I have a cellar full of stuff like that, so No thanks.
