On the costco website LLC $199.99 delivered to CA. 38 remaining…
My Costco in Dedham, MA still has 2018 Bordeaux. Don’t be jealous. Plus the 1st and only 2020 Bordeaux, I’m surprised this Costco added a second bottle Bordeaux, they usually bring in more Caymus.
Wow, what a great price, only a bit more than the massively discounted 19s and incredibly odd that it’s $100 cheaper than warehouse pricing.
Couldn’t resist grabbing a sixer.
I need to pay closer attention - looks like they had VCC & L’Evangile at some point as well
Unreal
Wtf is Costco doing? These have to be a mistake, no?
Their online wine presence has never made sense. I remember years ago they had a wide selection online, but pretty much shut it down. In between this, the 2012 Dom for $150 and the 1999 Dom gift baskets for $50 a decade ago, it just makes no sense.
This looks like another good deal as well. I believe they’ve had this pack up for somewhere around $250 for a while, now $99.99. Picked up a couple… I’ve enjoyed the Toscana in the past but haven’t tried the others.
$260 is the WSPro low to buy a single. I couldn’t resist and bought two.
I think this is the classic “buying something you’re not sure you even want just because it was a bargain” error. Likely I could sell it someday at least.
I wondering if they are testing the market, CostcoWine.com would easily take over the online marketplace, devouring Wine.com and TotalWine.com
Stupid price. The Giodo Brunello alone will run $70-80. I would snatch this in a heartbeat.
In for one. Thanks!
Odds of DP packs after holidays are looking up!
There’s a 3 pack of 2017 Paolo Manzone Barolo Meriame for $70 only available in CA. It’s a steal, normally $50/btl. Here’s @Jeremy_Holmes note from 2021:
Immediately expressive, with notes of rose petal, raspberry, cherry, mint and iron. It has depth and perfume and really good chew. There are elements of beauty and muscle in equal proportion. Love the balance and energy of this wine.
Midtown Kansas City has a growing 2020 Bordeaux stockpile:
They also have Cristal 2014 at $299.
Last but not least, I thought I’d note some odd pricing behavior on the Tornatore Pietrarizzo 2021 they have had in stock for quite some time. In early September, they had it marked at $25.49, a great price. A few weeks ago it was $19.99, and I thought I’d come back and grab some more. Today, it was $39.99! I think they realized it wasn’t just the standard bianco.
K&L is selling the brunello for $114.
Theoretically, I suppose, but that has never been how they operate in almost any market. Even with a decent wine program, a Costco will have <100 wines in stock at a time, and there is no effort to cover all the categories (e.g. there might be no Rhones, or no Piedmont, and usually is no Burgundy, at a given time).
Their model seems to be to provide various good quality things in all sorts of aspects of grocery, home, clothing and drug products which they can sell usually at below market prices, collect annual membership fees from a huge number of customers, have very low overhead, sell in large quantities. Trying to become Total Wine or some large online wine retailer doesn’t seem like it’s in their model.
I got 2016 Giodo at CWC for $80 last year.
This thread is definitely a good reminder that there are oceans of top Bordeaux made.
Good points. The only logic I’m using is that Costco is the largest buyer of wine in the US, at least I’ve heard that. It’s already proven they get great pricing on BDX. An online wine program would be very interesting to see rolled out, especially with free shipping.
Stopped by the wine section of the Fountain Valley store in between stocking up. Not much excitement. 2020 Brane C at $75. A 2018 and 2019 Bdx that I didn’t care about. Cristal for $340.
They had a bunch more of the CHeidsieck rose for $60. Again, not a great price but it appears to be base 2014. I bought one to see if they are fresher than the last late release I tried. Current release in regular stores is 2018 or 2019 base I believe.
I don’t think our local stores really get those special format bottles a lot of ya’ll do.
