All purpose 21.4 oz Stolzle wine glasses. 8 pack for 19.99
Also brought home the last 2015 Casanova di Neri Brunello (white label) and
grabbed a couple of the 2016 Vignamaggio Monna Lisa Gran Selezione for 27.99
Iām fairly certain itās actually just $14.99. Just saw it yesterday at the Plano West (Tollway) location and and thought it was a good deal, though didnāt pick any up. Iāve been enjoying the Drouhin 2017 Rully for $24ā¦itās been on the shelves for about a year now, and offers a bit more richness as compared to any Chablis, PLUS a nice acidity that might compare favorably to this Chablis (although certainly doesnāt have the classic Chablis minerality, flint, sea salt profile).
The higher end Bay Area stores started receiving 6-12 bottles of the 2010 Lady Gaga yesterday @ $189.99. Mountain View had 12 and sold out in 30 minutes of hitting the shelves.
I swung by #771 to buy the Stolzle glasses mentioned upthread
This location tends to have a weaker and domestically oriented wine dept. I rarely go there (my google location history says I was last there 3 years ago). I also noticed that price points seem to be lower, and there are more instant rebates available than at other locations I patronize.
Some selections
? Borsao Cabriola $13 same people who make Tres Picos, seems to be a syrah laden blend?
20 Alois Legeder Terra Alpina Pinot Grigio $11 I just noted the $ since #471 did not have it signed
20 Kirkland Signature Pinot Grigio [Friuli?] $5 I canāt remember the DOC but I donāt recall seeing this before
16 Adelsheim Breaking Ground PN [Chehalem Mtns] $25
19 Prisoner Wine Co. PN $25 This is at my local #471 for $40, the labeling here is more clear of what it is. The packaging/labeling is terrible; nothing about it makes me think anyone would be happy to open this bottle. My grocery store has this for $23, for a while too, with no nibbles.
? Oakville Grocery PN $10 Have not heard of this
? Kirkland Old Vine Zin $10 Labeling/boxes looks a lot like a well regarded producer
17? Swanson Vyd. CS [Napa] $15 big instant discount on this
A young 2019 Paso Robles Cabernet, Daou, is around $20. They put put smooth ready to drink Cabernet, with a little more structure than valley floor Paso. Itās remarkable that the wine doesnāt taste like a Bronco Wine Company supermarket wine, which suggests they havenāt added too much to the grapes. Easy drinker and great for parties. Blind tasters will be astonished. That said, a few Ogier Rhones are under $18. I prefer them. The Daou drank better than the several 2016 Bordeaux under $20. These are certainly better than $10-15 supermarket wines and worth a look.
ā20 Kirkland Cotes du RhĆ“ne Villages at Boca Costco for 6.99. Itās always a great cooking wine, and usually sippable. I bought a caseāwill give one a whirl soon.
āNot a Costco member, no problem
You donāt need to be a member of Costco to shop there for wine. Because of alcohol laws, Costco cannot restrict the sale of wine and spirits on a membership basis. Just tell them at the entrance you want to shop for alcohol. You will get in and be able to buy wine.ā
Is this true? Iāve never heard this before. (Iām a member, so Iāve never thought about it)
It depends on state rules, but often Rx and Alcohol can be purchased without membership. Also if one has a Costco gift card, that can be used for warehouse entry and purchasing of other items. Membership has so many promotional deals - at least for the first year - that even if one is not a typical prospect - it is likely to work out for many. Costco.com and Costco Travel are also good perks of membership.
