OK, I popped one. To keep it simple, an early drinking Brunello that kept me looking back at the bottle to make sure it wasn’t a Monsanto CCR. It had that dry and dusty, dark cherry profile. Definitely worth the price and I will add a few more.
Both are great values imo however don’t forget Barolo is ~3x the price. 20$ vs 7$. If anything I think that makes CdR the better QPR overall. If that’s what you’re looking for of course
I took a flyer on this, I think it was $19 but don’t quote me. Nice bright lemon, a little bit of salty/mineral notes, could have used a bit more acid. Would definitely buy again esp if it is 19 bucks.

Last night, we had the Grand Assemblage Brut Champagne by “Jeeper,” it was 38 bucks at Costco, we had it with Thai food.
My wife and I liked it!
I would say the acidity is on the high end, but we still got some creaminess and yeast, without overt sensation of sweetness. It had a refreshing finish, and there was a good ‘slight fruit’ component of ‘white stone fruit’ and some ‘white flowers.’
Nothing too ponderous, just a nice food wine. I think the QPR was good.
I swung by #471 to load up on paper products (one per customer limits now) and noticed these were available:
18 Vaudieu [CNDP] $29
20 Alois Legeder ‘Terra Alpina’ Pinot Grigio no price tag but my supermarket has the 19 for $13 so likely similar. This is their negociant bottling I believe
16 Perano [Chianti Classico] $20 I don’t think this was a reserva, so its either a very late release, or has been a slow seller. Most houses are on to their 18 or 19 by now.
18 Charmail [Haut Medoc] $21 They have this in OWC for those who might prefer that
? Orben [Rioja] $24 I think this is the 2018, but its not obvious from the label/box. Part of the Izadi empire and moderniste/new wave. I believe they do not use the crianza/reserva DOC system.
18 Montlabert [St Emilion] $33 not sure who would buy this; I’m a right bank enthusiast and would not pay that
18 Dom Pilot ‘1er Cru’ rouge [Mercurey] $25
16 les Aubiers [Bordeaux] $6.50 Costco has been hawking this for years one way or another. Wine Access even was flogging it (for an embarrassing $22) in March even.
15 Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon [Napa] $47 this seems to be another slow seller, I think current release is 2-3 vintages later.
Eternally Silenced pinot was $40 there, which seems to make a point of not disclosing vintage/varietal etc. From The Prisoner producers. The same wine is $24 at my supermarket
NV Taittiger ‘la Francaise’ Brut [Champagne] $40 I’m not sure what this really is, the label looks new/different than their base level bubbly I’m used to seeing. Same item was $25 for a couple weeks at my local market, which I passed on. Not convinced that champers ‘deals’ going into the fall are going to be fresh/properly treated/stored. This is the season when retailers ought to be firm on celebratory drinks pricing, I’d would assume.
Surprising to see shopworn, stale inventory from Costco. Some of these look like dregs that have been floating around warehouses for a while.
