NYC: Rose Bash 2025 - April 24th

This is an annual event (TN: Rose Bash offline (nyc) - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers) for us because:

  1. I used to poopoo Roses and it’s good to remind oneself of being a dolt
  2. I like to have a “buying guide” for annual Rose consumption
  3. It’s real fun

Yes, there are bonus points for anyone who shows up in a toga. No, Rose Champagne is not allowed; let’s keep the focus on the main thing.

Location: @AaronR’s home in Boerum Hill. Exact Adress will be sent via dm to those on list.
Time: 7pm
Date: April 24th
Food: Cheese and pizza

We’re going to keep at 10 folks bc unlike my barn, Aaron’s abode is classy.
Running Guest List:
@AaronR
@Dan_A and Cladia
@gavin.f
Rachael F.
@Joseph_Grassa and Julie
@TGigante

I will bring: a bunch :slight_smile:
'10 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Chavignol Rosé
'17 Terroir Al Limit Soc. Lda. Priorat Roc d’Aubaga - last year’s WOTN credit to @Dan_A. They don’t make this any more. I found this one in Spain and brought it back last year for this tasting :slight_smile:
'23 Domaine Bart Marsannay Rosé
'23 Bedrock Wine Co. Ode to Lulu Old Vine Rosé
'23 Clos du Joncuas Gigondas Rosé
'23 Domaine de Creve-Coeur Côtes du Rhône Coucou
'23 Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir Rosé Willamette Valley
'23 Domaine Turenne Histoire d’Haut Rosé
'23 Domaine les Fouques Cuvée L’Estelle Rosé
'21 Clos Cibonne Tibouren Côtes de Provence Cuvée Spéciale des Vignettes
'22 Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Rosé (Mag)

Missing:

  • '21 Clos Beylesse (mag) was my second place for last year. NY Wine Warehouse has some if someone wants to grab
  • LdH - I have the '11, but I really haven’t been that impressed with these. Unless someone is dying to try one, would rather skip
  • Los Bermejos, I think these are a great take on the style
  • Cerasuolo D’Abruzzo
  • A bigger CA rose. We had Andremilly last year that I was not impressed with. The trio of T. Berkley was neat
  • Older Tempier. I thought I had another mag of '20, but looks like it was drunk. Idk who would have done that…
  • Anything from 2024

Obs, we already have a lot, so if you want to piggyback off me, no worries I’ll grab some coin at cost from you. Or feel free to bring your own / fill in a gap.

These are always a ton of fun and I’m so looking forwards to it. Thanks so much to Aaron for hosting this year’s edition!

Ooohhh. I’d like to come, and should be able to make it. Unfortunately almost all of my funnest roses are in storage in San Francisco and won’t make it out there before then.

I can bring an extradimensional summer salters, or an older 2020 tercero mourvedre rose.

Other ideas worth bringing if anyone has/can track down:

Musar
Honorio Rubio Lia’s Finas (oxidative like LdH)
Sabelli-Frisch flame tokay
Vincent Pinot Gris
Iliana Malihin Liatiko
Thymiopoulos (esp. the barrel aged late release)
Abatucci faustine
Raul Perez Los arretos del pendon
Ametzoi txakolina Rubentis (slightly fizzy, does that get banned)

Julie and I Should be good for either date.

Hoping the first bottle below arrives soon enough to let it sit a bit, but the other 3 are good to go. We’ll see what else I can dig up as well, but if there are preferences among those below, let me know.

2017 Clos Cibonne Cotes de Provence Cuvee Speciale Tibouren Speciale des Vignettes Rose
2023 Bisson Ciliegiolo Portofino
2023 Forlorn Hope, Queen of The Sierra Rorick Heritage Vineyard Estate Red (blended with white)
2022 Chateau Pradeaux ‘Vespree’ Bandol Rose

It is the wine that sold at auction for $42,000. I would not pay $42 for that wine. But I cannot make this due to a tooth problem and a “procedure” in a week or so. Sorry to miss this. I took my tutu to the dry cleaners just to be ready for this, so I will have to save it for the next such event.

Hope it all goes smoothly, Jay!

My cousin won’t be able to make it.

We have room for 2, if anyone would like to join.

All full now. Looking forward everyone!

Missing a few that folks took home (which probably would have let the line fill the entire length of the 8’ table, not just almost all of it)

The Bandols showed pretty well (@Dan_A ’s Chateau de Pibarnon was probably my favorite, fuller bodied, complex, floral and quite savoury). The Goodfellow, Calipso, Cotat Chavignol and Pradeau Vespree was all winners, although I liked many of the others.

What a great night!! Aaron thanks for hosting us perhaps the classiest place we have been allowed to enter lol. Couple of my faves were the Goodfellow, Cotat, Pibaron, Cibonne and the Vespree overall it just an incredible learning experience to try so many roses while having a great time. Thanks for organizing Gavin, we will try and take care of this headache Claudia and I have but I’ll just blame it on allergies.

Great evening. Thanks to Aaron and Gavin. I don’t think I have ever covered a menagerie like that before in the rose category. It was very interesting to see the range across so many varieties and climats.

My favorites were the two Bandols, the Musar, the Goodfellow and Cotat. Very many more for honorable mention as they were all showing well.
