They don’t have to be… you could do a theme, or not. Totally up to you.

with friends like these…

People’s love languages eh?

Do we still have room, @PeterB ?

Still room for 2-3 more… 4-5 more if they bring something extra special

Aren’t we at 11 already?

I think we are 10, but usually there is a drop at the last moment. 11-13 is ideal as a result to get to 10-12. But I mean, if someone says, hey I have some first growth, and we’re at 13 already, I mean, come on.

Adding a tentative +1

The first offline I organized, back in 2005 when you were in diapers, had a full list. Then Josh Wertlieb contacted me and asked if he could come. He said he had a magnum of 1989 Haut Brion. We let him come.

I was going to post a list of possible wines and let y’all choose, but I’m old. I can’t get my 'puter to export a list of Bdx and Cab wines in CT into an ASCII format so I can post it here. Thus, you are at my mercy. I have a bottle of 1975 Gruaud Larose with a rotted cork that leaks badly. I will bring it just for Peter.

@J_a_y_H_a_c_k nothing like an expensive vinegar to make you go mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OK… roll call for Monday. it’s almost here!

we still have room for 1-2 more if anyone wants to bring a friend.

I will take a second spot for my friend Juan Soto (no, not the Yankee) and I will therefore bring 4 wines, which solve my difficulty in choosing what to bring and assures me that I will have at least 4 wines worth drinking before I have to toss the swill that Peter will bring.

I have, however, lost track of one issue. Does it have to be a blend? May I, for example, bring a Masseto and a Le Pin, which are 100% merlot? I won’t, but just for the sake of making decisions.

Does not need to be a blend.

My tentative +1 is out

I will be c30 mins late, I’m sorry. But will have some decent wines.

The day has finally come! And I am super excited to meet everyone here! I’ll be on time if not earlier than 5:30 to get settled in.

I had two logistical questions:

  1. What time is the event expected to end?
  2. My partner and I will be coming in with 4 wines. Should we pop the cork prior to arriving as to not giving information about the wines (aka don’t want to open the wine at the dinner as information can be leaked by the cork)?

We are looking forward to meeting you as well. Ending time is tough to gauge… it has been as early as 7:30 and as late as 9pm. I’m hoping with 10 people we can get the check before 8pm, then people are free to stick around.

If you think the wine will benefit from additional air, feel free. Wines will all be opened by you or by the staff away from the table before we drink them. There will be no corks on the table.

Juan and I have 4 wines. We will mess with you on all 4. At least one of them will get my standard offer - $20 to anyone who guesses both the grape and within 100 miles of where it was grown.
