New York City, aka Manhattan and the boroughs BYO

I was at Cote on Sunday night. It was our second time in the last six months, and everything was great.

Cote didn’t do it for me, either. My very short note from 2+ years ago …

Tom Tuesday Dinner is back!
2020 is here and with it brings the return of Tom Colicchio’s most beloved dinner series:
Tom Tuesday Dinner.
Join Tom & his talented culinary team in Craft’s newly renovated Private Dining Room for an evening of no-holds-barred cooking; built from seasonal market ingredients that have long been Tom’s inspiration.
Each evening’s guests will experience a never before served, progressive, 10 course menu created to highlight Tom’s ‘what’s local is best’ approach to the craft of cooking.
You will not see the same menu twice in this series but some of Tom’s favorite dishes may make their way to the upcoming tasting menu at Craft!

Steve, where is the BYO part?

Indian Accent $50
Food/flavors are very good, but by end of night felt a bit too heavy. We were more excited to return at beginning of the meal than the end. If was less pricey, would be more apt to return. Probably will return for a special occasion with others once. Despite a wide winelist, food can be spiced/spicy, so I personally would recommend a champagne etc. over the red burgundies etc. on offer. Cocktails are strong, but good, and I think my preferred route.

Tanoshi Sushi, free corkage! 1372 York Ave, New York, NY 10021 http://tanoshisushinyc.com/index.html

Upland $30
St anslem $25
Au cheval free if you share a glass.

I’m trying to think of the ones with the best food. Upland and st anselm are definitely up there. So is tanoshi.

for au cheval is that official policy or just your experience? i slept on this place since they opened but went last week. not going to be a regular spot considering how heavy the food is…but goddamn…a very enjoyable meal and a delicious burger.

never thought of bringing wine but after your post, maybe.

as for upland, i forget the current corkage but they were very cool with me bringing two nice cote roties.

Au cheval it was official enough to be communicated via email! So unless they changed the policy think you are good. Yea the food is heavy!

Upland I actually had an experience where they refused to open a bottle because I had coravined the bottle a little before. Probably they’re in the right, but I’ve never had that happen before.

BSide (51st between 8th & 9th Aves).

$25/bottle

Delicious Neapolitan style pizzas with perfectly charred dough and top notch toppings.

Park avenue winter. Now 50, used to be 35

Jua is $50. Despite a short wine list they have varietal-appropriate stems.

forgot about this…have you been recently? Curious how the food is holding up…

I ate there a few months ago and it was very good, still BYO friendly (brought a bottle of Champagne Fleury Fleur de l’Europe Brut Nature - disclaimer, I import it).

I’ve neglected to mention this restaurant here, even if I’ve dined-byob’d 3 times already.

I’ll add that the pasta dishes are worth ordering, too.

Agree, food is excellent, has always been excellent! At $100/person and no corkage it’s easily one of the best deals in the city for sushi.
Cheers,
David
PS, I just learnt about this notification function - I apologize for the late reply.

PSA- several korean indie restaurants in the city are providing family heat and serve delivery service if you are in manhattan and the nearby boros (maybe northern nj too not sure although queens and nj have lots of other options.). Kochinyc, hanjan/danji. Usually multiple meals worth of food. Probably not worth it if you are vegetarian or allergic to soy sauce, sesame oil, or gluten. Info is on insta. I did purchase a package and it was good. Another person I gifted it to thought the food was pretty good as well. (Everyone is also offering to deliver beverages too.) ** not affiliated to anyone at any of these restaurants, but we did have a couple nyc wb wine dinners at kochi. ** Not exactly a byo posting, just thought it may be useful any a way to help the restaurants that are still working a new business model in these times. (There are lots of great restaurants in manhattan. I’m sure a lot of others are doing creative delivery options. )

Any suggestions for a places that will host an outdoor offline?

AFAIK they are still having BYO Weds and Thursday at 83 1/2 (83rd 1st to 2nd). Pretty good Italian and brussels sprouts you will return for. Call in advance I suppose. When my little circle has enough vaccinated people we plan to head there.

Not Manhattan but there is a good Italian place in Sunnyside that is BYO, they have no license.

It’s the 40th St stop on the 7 train so easy access from midtown, I’m down if anyone wants to meet up. I’m fully vaccinated.
