Most of you know VinDependence Days (which starts tomorrow, Friday!) is my way of helping out some of our most beloved independent winemakers (and the family-owned wine and food companies that make this place what it is) during a rough stretch of the year, in a really rough economy.
This year I’m asking you to point that same instinct at something that needs far more attention.
The generosity of this community amazes me, and makes me proud. The Laura’s House drives including Falltacular. The Virtual Tasting for Charity tradition every December. Four years of BerserkerDay raffles that have put nearly $32,000 toward Love146’s work protecting children from trafficking.
Real talk: Jen and I care deeply about this cause. Child trafficking doesn’t just persist in 2026, it flourishes, and it’s happening right here, not somewhere far away. Neither of us can look away from that. For four years now, this community has looked at it straight on and done something about it through BerserkerDay. I’m hoping we can do more.
So now let’s double it: $60,000 total. And this time in a way that lasts.
On a recent call, the Love146 team told me something that stuck with me. Short of a major gift, nothing matters more to them than monthly donors. Predictable support means the people caring for these kids can plan instead of hope.
And we’re not talking big money. $25 a month (less than a bottle of wine, and for this crowd, well less) is all it takes. 100 Berserkers at $25 a month and we’re there. Then in January, the BerserkerDay raffle pushes us past it.
I’m not going to ask this community to do something I won’t do myself, so I’ve already signed up at $100/month. The thermometer sits at 53% as I write this, and my buddy @Charlie_Carnes already signed up as well!
